On the days you don't weight train would you recommend that you take protein shakes to keep your levels up. I currently have a shake after training and try to eat some form of protein with every meal.

Your ratio between carbo intake and protein intake should be 4:1. That means you should be taking a lot of carbs along with your protein for maximum build.

you say you go by the food pyramid and then throw out this ratio. does your little pyramid have a base 4x the next level up? no. you shouldn't be eating that many carbs.
Doesn't anyone know the food pyramid? Just look at the back of all foods and it will tell you how much you should have of each item. Extra protein just goes to the toilet and I will stand by that. Your body can adapt to many diets though so it's not a huge deal. Just a waste of money on protein supplements.

Alright I am 5'11 and weight 175 and I don't have the camera to take pictures. I'm pretty skinny but I've noticed my quads are getting huge from the stationary bike without protein supplements or extra protein.

Ok I guess I've been stubborn on the part that people trying to build muscle need a little extra protein but not as much as mentioned here. Here is an exact amount needed in this table I found.
.4 grams/lb for sedentary adult
.5-.7 grams/lb for Recreational exerciser, adult
.6-.7 grams for Endurance athlete, adult
.7-.9 grams/lb for Growing Teenage Athlete
.7-.8 grams/lb for adults building muscle mass
.8-.9 grams/lb for athete restricting calories
.9 grams/lb for Estimated upper requirement for adults
.5-.9 grams/lb for Average Protein Intake of Male endurance athletes
.5-.8 grams/lb for Average protein intake of female athletes.

"Sports Nutrition" by Nancy Clark who is one of most respected Dietitians out there. You should get the book. The other book pretty much says the same thing though gets really specific and in depth. "Advanced Sports Nutrition."

I have had to delete loads of posts and close this thread. This is because people have not been able to post responsibly.

The guys know who you are and you must all learn to walk away when you feel an argument coming on.

This is a fitness forum, please remember that.
