Protein Bars...?

I've recently been reading on protein bars. I bought a bunch of them.

Right now, I need to lose fat but also want to build muscle. If I start eating protein bars accompanied with daily exercise and a good diet, will they help me lose weight?

I'm afraid that if I eat the protein bars, they will just make me fatter. Or that the muscle would be built under the fat. Or something like that. I'm not sure how this works.

I've read online that protein bars will reduce fat and build muscle. Is this true? It's not like I would JUST be eating the bars, I would be exercising a lot as well. Thoughts?

Here's an article I read on them:

Protein bars are added calories -if you go over your daily calories you will gain weight -

there's no real magic in them that is going to build muscle...

and a lot of the protein bars have excess amounts of sugar in them that your body really doesn't need. you are better off with real food...

I have a good recipe (many good recipes, but one really good one) for some vegan no-sugar, low carb, high protein chocolate peanutbutter protein bars. Even if you aren't vegan and don't want to make them vegan, you can modify the recipe without much trouble and you'd probably end up with similar fat/carb/protein ratios.
