So I have been pretty inactive the past year..I clean up my house, and do pet related chores...but I usually take frequent breaks. Today I decided to go out for a long walk with one of my more active dogs(I haven't actually walked anywhere long distance for several months to a year, and I don't usually walk short distance much either..I take my dogs to dog parks so THEY can get exercise and I can sit on my butt!). After about 4-5 blocks my calves started burning..which is unusual. I didn't stretch though, how important is stretching? Would that have prevented my problem? It hurt for another several blocks...and I started jogging cause my dog was wanting to go faster then I was going, but I could only do that for about half a block cause my legs were burning even worse!! I did end up walking 2 miles to my friends house, and had my brother pick me up and take me home, cause I for sure couldn't walk back! I should be taking baby steps..but how do you gradually step up to walking more? Last year (before I gained 30 more pounds) I walked 7 miles (it did take me about 4 hours to do that, but I wasn't in too much pain when I was done). I only walked 2 and my legs are STILL burning!! I guess I have become even more out of shape.
How should go about getting back into exercise? Should I start out increasing the blocks I walk gradually?
Any input would be appreciated!
