POST Your Ride

Expect to see changes to mine / A different car in a few months....I just got an informal job offer :) Just need to check out my references and they will be making a formal offer, im well chuffed, especially since i had the interview yesterday, and was told i would hear from them a week on Monday, yet they rang me today to let me know :D

1993 Geo Prizm (rebranded Toyota Corolla)
29 city, 35 hyw. (acctual measure)
0 - 70 in under 10 min. :D (downhill with a tail wind)

Purchased at a yard sale Oct. 2002 for $250 and I finally put it on the road in March of 2006. My total investment so far is $250 for the car, $92.50 for a fender, $118 to the BMV for title transfer and plates, and about 40 bucks for oil & filter, windshield wipers, bulbs and a few bolts.

I drive a midnight blue 300ZX Nissan with t-tops. I love the car. It needs a little Tlc in certain areas but for the most part is still pretty cherry.

OMG!
Basket lady!!!! - The Cobra is my all time dream car.
Your lucky you live in verginia or I'd be asking for a ride.

Dan - Nice escort, normally Bodykits look crap in escorts but tats nice, not too overthe top and its got a nice paint job.
Thats the nicest car Ive ever known a uni student to have.

Chris JG, Very nice. I was looking at an elise the other day, I can afford the car but the insurance was 7k a year!!!! im 22 and dont have any no clames bonus so i wont be buying anything above group 12 insurance for a while.
How does it ride? is it really bumpy. Is it ok over speed bumps and rough roads?

Thanks man.

£7k a year?!! Man, thats harsh - I think I pay about £680. Mind you, I'm 33 with 8 yrs no claims. If I were you, I'd phone around. I'm with Autotorque myself. Make sure you put one of your parents on the policy as a named driver, that'll make a HUGE difference. You can get limited mileage policies too which might be worth investigating. There will be a big reduction when you hit 25 but, £7k still seems ridiculous to me.

The ride is actually surprisingly good. I mean, sure its a stiff setup and, if you hit a bump, you certainly know about it but, I have regularly driven to South Wales from Reading along the M4 and not felt tired at the other end. As for speed bumps and rough roads, I used to have a Golf VR6 and the Lotus actually has more clearance!! I have to mount a 4.5" kerb to get into my driveway which isn't a problem either (its close though!). I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth the first time I did it - I was expecting to hear a scrape but, it was fine.

Its a pure sports car as you know - no bells, no whistles just utter driving nirvana :D Bends in the road take on a whole new meaning....if you can get one, do it - you will never regret the decision.

Thats prob because it took about 5mins!!!!

Yeah 7k was the basic, I shopped around and the best offer was 4k, which is still pretty crazy.

14k is the most I can spend, and I'd be hard pushed to find a nice elise for 10k.

I'm gonna look in to the smart roadster cos 2nd hand for 8-k and you can tune them up quite a bit. I was told It was ideal if i wanted an elise in a few years as the drining possition is simular. Ether that or a kit car of some sort.

Come on by - we'd be happy to give you a ride. It definitely is a FUN car. It was built to be driven, and we do just that - actually, we're on our way to Lake George, NY next weekend! :)

New guy here, just saw this thread and figured i would chime in...

2003 liquid grey focus zx3 (hatch)
Turbocharged...full suspension and re-done interior, too much to list.
348 whp and 297 wtq

Basketlady - Yeah I would love to, Its a shame im some 4000miles away in the UK!

I think its good that a few of you yanks have a focus. It's not a typical american car, Its a mid-size hatch which is not a huge oversized 4x4 petrol hungry monster. I think that over the next 10 years the USA will be more interested in the smaller, more efficient "fun" cars.

You guys over the pond have got to realize that small cars are much more fun to drive, better on gas, better for the environment and much much cheaper. Who needs an SUV for going to work and the shops when you can rent a truck if u need it for next to nothing.

The smaller, efficient cars over here are boring and no where near fun. At least that's the majority..

in the states can u not get mini coopers - renault clio - vaxhaul corsa - citron C2 - pug 206 - fiat punto - ford fiesta - toyota yaris?
all these cars are under 10'000 Pounds and most do a sports verision for around 15k which will have a 0-60 of 8-10s.
8-10s isnt that fast, but for a brand new car, with low insurance, high MPG and warrentys they are offen very nice drives that work out cheaper than buying an older large engine sports car.

the rest nope, and soundz I bet your car doesn't get good mileage (teh main topic)

well, whats good mileage? I can easily stay out of boost while doing regular driving, netting me about 30 mpg on the highway. If im really ripping on it i get about 12 mpg (which isn't often, cops dont like me >_<)

I got stuck behind 3 mini Coopers on seperate occasions yesterday - they seem to be popular with the pensioner fraternity who aren't entirely sure what the pedal on the right is for and so avoid using it wherever possible...

Here's my car

And here is what I like to do with it.:D

Lot's of stuff done to it.;)
