points vs calories

I don't do either anymore, i merely count pounds lost. As Im not actually on a diet but just eating and Exercising healthily I don't really need to count anything but my weight loss.

Everybody like to do things differently but for me counting either calories or points merely reminded me that I was trying to diet in the past and the psychology of it was something I couldn't sustain

But I would say whichever suits the individual is the best way for them

Yeah, I definitely find it easier to estimate my calories for the day rather than having to look up points every time I eat... It seems to be working too. I like to look at the calorie content of something when I buy something, and then use that as a guideline as I eat. I find it easier to remember.

It completely agree with it is stated

with all do respect, I dont care which diet you choose, its all ABOUT THE ALMIGHTY calorie, and the law of energy balance. Some diet programs dont track calories; however, when you remove carbs, or lower carbs, remove fats, etc....all these manipulations----effect caloric equation. AND, IN THE END, THIS IS ALL THAT MATTERS THE MOST IN WEIGHT LOSS.

I think its better to track your calories eaten VERSUS what you need in a 24 hour day, and then backing off a healthy margin. In the caloric equation, it take approx. -3500 caloric deficit to lose one pound. For example, if your -500 caloric deficit per day for 7 days, you can lose approximated one pound of fat (sometimes a mixed ratio in tissue loss, if you understand what I am saying).

I really don't know anything about weightwatchers or 'points' or how they work.
Is there a link where I could read about what they are & how they work?
Thanks

Points are just a simplified versison of calorie counting.
Go for calories :) There's information on packets too, which helps alot when you're clueless about energy content.

^^^^I totally agree. Having done both though, I found that for me, calories was better psychologically. When you have 26 points for the day to use, vs 1300 or so calories, which sounds better? LOL!

I'm on the WW Points system....I find it easier....because not only does it consider the calories in the food, but also the Fat...and fiber...
Basically, like if you want to drink an Enviga Nestea green tea drink...it's 10 calories....but doesn't have any fat or fiber....so it's 0 pts....
The pts are easier to count up...I couldn't imagine having to go through a day and say..."ok, I had that and that which was so many calories....so that leaves me so many numbers left....well lemme look at the calories of everything on this plate..."
Weight Watchers has many good frozen foods out there with the points value on the front of the box (Smart One's, Lean Cuisine is on the side of the box) etc etc

It all depends on what you think is easier for you

much easier to track calories. easier to grocery shop as well....it's all right there on the package. also, using fitday.com makes it all so much easier.
