Please some one help

It really helped me to drink a big mug of tea (no milk, sugar etc.) after my last meal and then brush my teeth afterwards. It was hard at first, but eventually I just got used to that being the end of my eating for the day.

I've been trying to diet now for 2 weeks abd I can't stop eating at night... Anyone help sugestions anything!!

Anticipate it, and fill your stomach with low calorie vegetables (not potatoes, but things like lettuce or other leafy greens, cabbage and so on, just not starchy high calorie veggies). Also eat some protein or drink a glass of milk along with it.

I have the same problem. I try to save some calories for later at night so that I can have a small late night meal. (bowl of cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, soup, protein shake, cottage cheese and fruit, almonds, etc.) Drinking green tea helps a bit or drinking ice water and chomping on the ice works.

Do activities that you cannot eat while doing. I used to watch television every night as a way of de-stressing from my day... that was prime mindless eating time. Now I go to the gym, go see friends, or read...

Tea and brushing teeth is a good one too. If I feel the urge to snack, brushing my teeth sometimes helps! As does drinking water.

But in the end there is no miracle... Ive had problems with this for years... I find that after a few weeks of willpower, it gets easier and easier not to eat at night...

Well tonight is the night....Just got home from the gym and I'm drinking water, I'm going to do it tonight and not eat....Thanx for the sugestions guys!!!

Do you eat breakfast? Some people find that spreading the calories out more evenly over the day helps to limit the hunger pangs in the evening. It's worth a try, anyway.

I drink a giant mug of green tea. If im still hungry i try to go to bed early to avoid gettin tempted by those late night carb pangs. I often find a good look in the mirror reminds me not supposed to be eating haha!

Brushing your teeth is a good tip, you never want to eat whilst your teeth are so lovely and clean :)

I never eat in the evenings, always feel full after my tea. It's during the day at work when I get hungry/bored/fed-up and want to stick my face in a bowl of ice-cream.

Same Issues

I've been trying to diet now for 2 weeks abd I can't stop eating at night... Anyone help sugestions anything!!

Hi Gerard, I had/have those same issues. Here is how I handle it...

1) If you can, eat dinner around 5-6PM and exercise in the 7-9PM range. First, it occupies time. Second, when I have sweat a lot, I crave and drink water and 0-cal Vitamin Water (no Sucralose or Aspartame though!!). Third, I think I burn more cals. while I sleep. After 35 years of dieting, evening exercise works best by my experience.

2) If you feel the need for a snack, limit to one, keep it no later than 9PM and have either a TrailMix or Protein Bar (180-200 cal range). You could also limit to fruit...I sometimes go Apple or Peach...with the water from (1) above.

3) This is a secret of mine...it might work for you. Dill Pickles. They fill you up, sour your taste buds on sweets and are extremely low calorie. You can eat like 8 dill spears and it will be about 40 calories.

Best of luck!!

I get very hungry at night. I have several theories on this, they are...

I drink alot of diet lemonade at night- none in the day time, its all water till I get home. I watched a documantary saying that if we drink diet drinks, the body still expects just the same calories as if it were full sugar, so craves and craves it until you eat it.

I exercise quite late in the day...am not perfect, I don't always eat afterwards (its a long anorexic hang up you don't want to hear about) but if you do also exercise for anything more then an hour, eat something, take on some protein and carbs, it doesn't need to be massive amounts but just within an hour after exercising and low fat, low sugar low salt.

Tierdness can lead to hunger. Apparently (no evidence for this- someone (a neurologist) told me this) the hormones goven off when we have had enough sleep are similar to those we get when we eat. The body craves them and this is a reason for feeling more hungry then normal. But I find it impossible to sleep if I am hungry so not sure that works for everyone- maybe see if it works for you?

Do you drink enough water during the day? its easy to confuse hunger with thirst at times and I'd imagine harder to distinguish when your tierd.

Stress- at the end of the day we are left with loads of "stuff", this increases adrenalin (sp!) which can mean you crave more sugary carbohydrate type foods.

Also, check your nutrient intake for the rest of the day- check you got enough protein, complex carbs, enough fruit and veg, enough nutrients. If you didn't it could be your body is craving them.

I had the same problem. I loved to eat right before bed, but found that it was the worse thing I could do for weight control. I did some research and found that eating protein right before bed can help prevent the breakdown of muscle throughout the night. Eating a casein protein (slow digesting) can give your muscles and body what it needs during the starvation period of sleep. So, I have myself a bowl of cottage cheese at the end of the night -- it is low in carbs and high in protein. Once I did that, I stopped craving carbs at the end of the night. And I continue to lose fat without sacrificing muscle.
