I have recently started a diet and been doing really well (or so i thought). I have joined a slimming group and lost 2.5lbs the first week.

I have since joined a gym and started swimming and walking the dog for over an hour a night... i have exercised every night for the last couple of weeks....so i was very excited to go to my slimming group this week.

When i got on the scales to my horror i had put 0.5 a pound on!....i am gutted.

Everyone keeps telling me how i look like i have lost weight...and i definatly feel like i have... My trousers are looser than they have been in a very long time and my tummy feels lovely and flat.

I have been eating sensibly and dieting...cutting right back on bread which is a really bad food for me!

I feel absoloutly gutted and disheartened......i just dont understand. It has made me not want to go to my slimming group again and i know it sounds silly but after working so hard im really upset.

I ahve done the diet before without exercising as much and the weight dropped off??!!!! it seems the harder i wor the more the scales are unkind to me...despite feeling miles better in my own clothes?

Don't give up. Weight loss is a rolling average of loss, not a day to day thing. You can put on 'weight' without putting on fat by just having to much sodium (salts etc).
Stick with it for more than a couple of weeks, and think about it more in the terms of a longer term 'getting healthy' rather than loosing weight (though i know thats hard)

Weight fluctuates all of the time. It could be several things that makes the scale show .5 gained.
-it could be water weight (did you drink more water than usual the day before?)
-salt intake- too much can make you carry more water weight too
-did you not use the bathroom before weighing this time?
-it could be muscle gain
-were you wearing the same thing you wore last time you weighed? (i suggest weighing yourself naked every time)
-some people on the forums report gaining weight temporarily after they had wine the night before but then it comes right off

Seriously, don't stress over .5 of a pound. You feel flatter and you look good right? Then it could be a number of factors that caused the scale to show that. Check out the thread "weigh yourself everyday club". Those people go up and down and up and down but at the end of the week ultimately they lost a pound or two.

Thankyou :)

well i feel a lot better...like i say i defo think im flatter and firmer...m other half thinks so too and i know that sometimes people are just polite but i keep getting told how i look like i have lost weight.

I will try to wear the same thing but sadly my slimming club wont let me weigh myself naked lol! :blush5:

i will just keep at it i think but might wait a few weeks before weighing myself again...and maybe i will do it at home rather than being gutted in front of a group of people.

Thanks for the advice all
xx
