Hiya, I feel a bit embarrassed writing this, but, my eating has gone way out of control. All I think about is food....and I cant stop eating. Ive been trying to do Weight Watchers, but, i just cant stick to it, I get so hungry. Has anyone got any suggetsions. Im not happy...please help!

If it's genuine hunger, then you need to track everything and figure out what your body really needs. (More protein, fiber, whatever). If you just think you're hungry, but it's more munching constantly, then you need to deal with that somehow. You've got a diary here somewhere, don't you? Why don't you find it, and start recording. We all are willing to help. :)

On what Dari said - what are you eating on a regular basis...

and are you sure it's out of control and not just your perception?

You mentioned elsewhere that youo hadn't been tracking calories or portion sizes - with weight watchers, have you started doing that and are you sure your portion sizes are accurate?

Ok, I'll try to record everything I eat...I do plan to eat good for the day..then it all goes to pot. Thanx for your reply

Hiya Mal,
I have started to weigh out the relevant portion sizes for Weight Watchers, but, they dont seem to fill me up....and I think thats why I get so hungry. Can you suggest anything. Ive tried drinking water..but..my body is just craving for food such as potatoes, bread and pasta???? I feel alot better once Ive eaten these foods...but...by this point Ive gone over my points allowance...and then I feel guilty and a failure.

those feelings don't help in the long run -- they'll just lead to easy excuses for binging... I already screwed up for the day - so why not go all out and eat that cheesecake. Mistakes happen... ask yourself why it did happen and try to come up with an altertive and forgive yourself and move on.

Have you switched from white bread and pasta to whole grain? that is slower to digest so it will keep you full longer.

shiratake noodles, a yam based noodle sold usually in the dairy aisle near the tofu stuff, while its a little bit of an aquired taste, is super low in calories and it a nice pasta alternative.

Are you sure you're getting enough points? I tried weight watchers years ago - and while ididnt like the meetings, the calories just seemed to low to me - what if you earned yourself some activity points and got to eat more?

I'm seriously no expert but i really dont think you're eating enough during the day - snacks aren't going to kill you and wil lbe good for you...

Hang in there -- don't throw away your goals on a bad few days - you'll get thru it - just stick to it...

Thanks alot Mal. Im going to start using the diet diary again too. I DO want to succeed. I thought about what you said about WHY Im over eating and I think its because Im having a stressfull time at university at the moment..and finding it difficult time wise to plan my meals and cook them...I decide at each mealtime what I want to eat...but...by this time ..Im already starving...and thats when i lose all control...and end up eating most of whats in the cupboard while Im waiting for my meal to cook...or...end up eating the wrong things because -I am tired and its quicker.

I do eat wholemeal pasta, rice and bread. Thanx for your help, it is much appreciated. Love Mandie xx

If you are grabbing the wrong things because it's quicker - why not keep on hand the right things you can have that can be prepared quickly?

Hiya Mal, thats a good idea....maybe keep a fruit bowl near the cupboard, so when I get tempted I can just grab something out of there...Unfortunately...I started off well today, but, Ive been bad again....started by having a good breakfast (cereal), had a jacket potatoe with low fat cottage cheese for lunch..but...then had a crunchie and a boost !!!! WHY !!!!!!! the only other good thing is that I walked to and from Uni today..which adds up to 40 mins of exercise. I forgot to mention to you last time...I bumped into my old Slimming world consultant the other day. I explained to her what had been happening....she said that she has alot of people join Slimming World who have tried Weight Watchers before and they couldn't manage it either...so she recommended that I go back on the Slimming World principles...I explained that I wouldn't be able to come to the group, but, she said that was ok...I could ring her anytime, and maybe when I finish Uni I could rejoin her group. After speaking to her I felt alot better and went and brought the magazine. I did enjoy slimming world and lost 2 stine with it. Do you think I should give it another go or try and persist with weight -Watchers....sorry to keep moaning..I just feel in a real panic about it all. Thanx for listening and being there for me, Love mandie xx

the most effective weight loss plan is the one you can live with - remember this isnt a short term thing - it is habits you're building for the rest of your life (so yu won't be my age and doing it again)\

I think you should, however, give whatever program you choose a fair chance to see if it does indeed work - like a month or so - and evaluate how you're feeling... a program shouldn't be that hard for you to stick with though.. but you do have to re-learn some things.

I've read that it takes 28 days of consistent behavior to build a habit... and I've really found that to be true - just take it day by day and do the best you can do for yourself - or meal by meal and on to the next day.

While you are at school you m ight want to keep snacks on your bag you can have between classes - I always have portioned out bags of almonds or even cereal in my desk at work -that way the donuts are just not appealing

Thanx Mal, I think you are right...you have to give these things time. I know I was happy on Slimming World and did lose weight, I found it easy, but, thats because I was used to it...I tended to eat alot healthier too and knew that i could stick to it long term...lol...Im laughing to myself as im reading this back before I post it to you...I guess Ive already decided that Slimming world is better for me...just didnt realise till I wrote this...funny hey...lol.

How many points do you get? I was on 24, and almost always went over and used 1 or 2 flex points everyday, and when I went down to 22, I used 5 or 6. You NEED to.

If you read the other posts on here, you should be eating more than 1200 calories, and ww goes by the absolute minimum. 1 point = about 50 calories. That's why I left (well, that and the money! :D ) I need about 1500-1600 calories each day. WW was giving me 22, and I felt like a failure dipping into the Flex points. But they are there to be used.

I was on 21 points...with taking into consideration on what you were saying about 1 point = 50 cals...that means Im only having 1050 !!!
Are you still doing weight watchers?? or are you trying something else now??
Im considering trying slimming world again xx

Mandie: Why don't you try a version of my diet plan....it's the no crappy food diet.

Breakfast: Cereal with non-fat milk (usually Raisin Bran or Special K) (150 cal)
Snack: Carrots (80 cal)
Snack: Grapes (80 cal)
Lunch: Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones or Soup and a piece of fruit (400 cal)
Snack: Apple (80 cal)
Dinner: Some kind of protein (chicken/turkey), a vegatable, and maybe a starch (700 cal)
Snack: Fruit or Popcorn! (100)

Seriously, I'm eating the entire day...but it's good snacking and it's picky food so I can eat 1 or 2 at a time do some work, eat some more, do some work. It's about 1600 calories a day and I feel great.

Give it a try!

^^^I'm with Kaitie...that's approximately what I do too. I quit WW because of the money, but also because mentally, I find it more fulfilling to eat 1500 calories, than it is to eat 22 points and go over. Psychologically, I guess.

I'm on the very little crappy food diet. It's the exact same as I was doing on WW though. The point, though, is to use the Flex points. If you divide them up throughout the week, that's an extra 5 a day, which would give you 26 points each day. Still lower range, but more filling, I think.

Good ideas there girls...thank you...I will make losing weight work for me...somehow...I'll give it a try...Thanx again xx
