Please help keep me motivated to achieve my weight loss goals!

Hello, this is my first post. I am 26 years old and I weigh 169 lbs. 3 years ago, after having my first child, I reached an all time high of 235 lbs. With the help of weight watchers, I lost down to 153. Over the last two years I have gone up and down. This last August, I weighed 191. I had no idea that I had gained that much weight! So from August until the end of October, I started eating healthy and excercising. I was able to stick with healthy eating until Halloween and I even got down to 166. At Halloween somehow I gave up eating healthy. I stopped stepping on the scale and I ate fast food every day. By December 13th, I had gained almost 10 lbs back in six weeks. December 13th, I realized how crazy my eating patterns where and I decided that I have to start eating healthy. It has been two weeks since starting over. I have lost 6 lbs so far. My goal weight is 144. By my calculations, if I lose an average of 2 lbs per week, I should reach my goal weight by day 100. The problem is, how am I going to stay motivated until that long? I am one of those people who can eat healthy and excercise for a few weeks, but then for some reason I give up and I gain back everything that I just worked so hard to lose. I know how to excercise and eat healthy, but what I don't know is how I can maintain eating healthy and excercising long term? Any advice would be great!

It helps to break down the goals into short term small goals. And I mean small. For example, make next weeks goal to use _____ in four of your meals. Plan ahead. If you exercise, make this weeks goal to run 10 miles or something and next weeks to do 1000 jumping jacks. Obviously these are just examples, tailor them to something that actually makes sense to your lifestyle. Writing these short term goals down really helps, that's why weight watchers keeps track of everything so thoroughly on paper.

Also, planning ahead gives you "checkpoints" so that if you DO fall off the wagon, you can get back on easier. It's really easy for someone who doesn't fall off until Christmastime to get back on the wagon because the first of the year is just a few days away and a great time to start something. It's much harder if you fall off in March.

Thank you so much for the advice! It is hard to think that it will take me 3 1/2 months to reach my goal! I have been doing good eating healthy the last few weeks and I burn a lot of calories at my job (I am a server), but I do need to start doing cardio every week. I think that I am going to make next weeks goal to do cardio for 30 min. at least 3 times a week! I am also going to keep a journal to make sure that I am staying on track!

Boy can I relate! I have had long stretches of intense devotion to eating right and exercising regularly, and suddenly I allow myself to get derailed after months of progress. Not even sure how it happens!! :cuss:

I find I do better when I surround myself with people (usually online, not IRL) who are going through similar struggles.

Here's hoping we can help keep each other focused and on-track!!
