Please can we be a bit nicer?

Hey all.

Right, im going to have a little rant. Ive noticed that there is increasing numbers of posts having a dig at people that are new, young, inexperienced or in the dark about the whole fitness thing.

We all know that there are basic rules and beliefs regarding food, training, cardio, body types etc etc, but when 'newbies' post something that falls under the above then more experienced posties tend to have a go and these people.

I have been on here for a couple of months and am still constantly learning; i understand that some people ask really obvious or daft questions but what attracted me to the site was the number of genuinely helpful and understanding people.

The majority of people are not pro athletes or bodybuilders and we all know the learning curve that occurs when we set off on a new training regime - so can certain people please help the newcomers and not sledge them into cowering away from the site.

A quick 'you're talking ****' is fine but please follow it up with 'but here's how to improve' otherwise posting becomes pointless and only for the elite few that are experienced in body and fitness.

Here endeth the sermon.

Have a good weekend!

Ben

The problem is some of the new people do not take the time out to search all of the useful information this board has to offer.

I think people get frustrated when we have to answer the same questions over and over again.

I can agree with your post as well. I'm new and I got a retarded remark on one of my posts which i thought was rude, but let it be. I tried not to let it bother me and posted back and left it at that, but I really thought....wow, what the hell. I did get some helpful responses as well. I guess some people care and others don't. Oh well. I say if people don't like a post, then just don't respond to it, rather than posting something rude. Just my two cents. ;)

If someone bothers you or offends you on this board, PM a mod and I'm sure they will handle it accordingly.

We are here to help.

Then if noone responds, the person will post over and over "Hello??????!!!!" So I guess there is no medium.
It doesnt help that this is an internet forum, so you cant see the emotions (laughing, sarcasm) that a person means.
Also some people ask questions, you give a good answer and then they try to justify why the answer given is wrong. hmmm
Ill just keep replying as I see fit.

This is true as well. Without hearing or seeing emotions it can be taken the wrong way. I guess that's why we have to realize that this is the internet and not to take things too personally. Good point!;)

Thanks for the advice. It didn't bother me too much...lol! :D

I can't help thinking 'new member intro' may not be the best place for this thread....

However, on topic, I can't say that I have noticed the same thing but, I guess that doesn't mean it isn't happening as I don't read every thread thats posted. Personally I would always try not to be rude to someone simply because they didn't know the answer to something or they disagreed with me. If I can help, I will try - if I don't know the answer, I usually leave it to someone who does. If the question is a ridiculous one, I may try to have a little fun with it.

I'm all for rude people being nicer though....and a group hug might be fun too :D

i can feel the love

just realised that, because of this, i can never ever be nasty to anyone no matter what theyve said or done.

its not a massive problem but there are a number of isolated posts where a bit more encouragement is needed.

also, i agree on the problem of not being able to see emotions - its just that on this forum it could harm someone in a number of ways. not so much an issue of the techno-geek forums that fill google, apart from electrocution of course.

Interesting, although I can see some people being a little over the top. I rarely see people being flat out mean, although it happens. If anyone has a problem, like Lee said you're welcome to pm a mod..

Thread moved to let more people see..

"I need some1 2 giv me a program and wut deit i ned plus i want to get tonnd and stuf im not fat prob 2% buddyfay.

Oh yah here r sum stuffs buot mi im15 yrs old 5"10' an i am 190 lbs"

So. Stupid.

Although this is something you'll see only occasionally...come on. These people are coming on here to be spoonfed, and probably won't even do half the **** you tell them to. They won't research, or even seek the most basic of knowledge, which is easily attainable. It shows that they are both selfish and lazy. Not something that needs to be babied. Although I doubt I am one who is "mean"...I wouldn't feel pity for someone like this who is made an example of.

On the end of the spectrum closer to the median, you'll have some people who still want to be spoon fed and can still find their information easily. These people will post a few times and discontinue any activity. These people will usually get a few short answers and curt replies to their threads. Can you ask for more? Those who answer the members are tired of repeating themselves in multiple threads, everyday. Sometimes on consecutive threads with similar titles and posts. I am not attacking you, Nelson, because you are a contributing member. I am just defending those who might seem rude.

But you'll always have people who are just malicious or what have you, and it's important not to get them confused with people that are just having their patience tried. And yes, there is the issue of sarcasm. What I've seen is just blatantly obvious jokes and sarcasm, it's sometimes hard to pick up, but should we all change ourselves to make our jokes obvious, we take the spice out of having so many different people collaborate and communicate on this board.

I for one, found myself pulling my jokes and changing my humor. I apologize and I'll try not to have it happen again. From now on you're all gonna get the whole package.

Some don't bother to read, others will if it's collected into an organized format. I'm surpised there are so few stickies providing a foundation in diet, exercise, etc.

On one board I frequent, I made a collection of such information. We still have to tell some people "Read the Essential Reading sticky," but at least we don't have to repeat whole paragraphs of information anymore.

^^ Not everyone agrees on things, so that would be difficult

It's not a democracy. It's passing on sciencific research and the knowledge of top names in the fitness and BB world.

You know, a FAQ Sticky in each sub-forum for all the FAQs would be a good idea.

Once its complied - that being the tricky bit - its just a case of a mod copy + pasting it as a post into each sub-forum.

Saying that, I did it that job on a smaller forum and it was a right time consuming pain in the ass. Ended up with three identical stickie threads in one sub-forum. But then such is the price for being the dimwit...

The "oldies" are really nice and are always willing to help, I dont agree. Some ppl are just lazy.
