Plateau'd

I have been working out and on a conservative diet for 21 months now. I consume roughly 1800 calories a day over the course of 5 meals. I work out 3 times a week and engage in moderate cardio activities (like baseball, rollerblading with friends, or swimming... what ever social activity presents itself). I had been losing fat and gaining muscle at a steady pace for the first 18 months, but now I have stalled. My pants feel like they are getting tighter, and I am no longer noticing the reduction of fat in my abs. I have a problem with man-boobs as well, and am yet to find a solution to. It also seems like I am no longer gaining muscle though my strength has continued to increase with each workout. Does anyone have an answer to this fat loss, plateau?

what many find when they plateau is that they need a break. a couple of days of rest then changes in your routine should get you over the hump. :)

I'm just wondering but that 'd in your topic reminded me of a fad on and I was just wondering if you go there. Probably not, but worth asking.

I have taken breaks before, and I will be taking a break from working out this week because of the long weekend. Do you recommend that I take a break from the diet too? I would hate to do that and balloon up.

dont stray too far off your diet. you dont have to be 100% strict but loosen up a bit.

have fun, enjoy yourself. then when its time to start up again you should feel refreshed and recommited to your goals. :)

Its been 13 days since I last posted here. I loosened up my diet a little; having things I have really wanted for a while. One night I had pasta another I had a hamburger (homemade extra lean) and I haven't worked out in 7 days because I have been busy at work. I have gained 5 pounds and my pants feel tighter.

I now weigh 185lbs.

I was working towards getting down to 170 slowly and I was stuck at 180, hoping to lose 10 lbs in time for my vacation that is fast approaching.

How do I lose 15lbs in 3 weeks? I will try Hydroxycut but I don't have any time to add any other activities to my workout routine.

Any suggestions are more than welcome

Please see my post in Becky_e's post "Why is it so hard to lose 10 pounds?"...I recommended a healthy weight loss program I've used to good effect several times. Stay away from fad diets. Also, losing 15 pounds in 3 weeks is unlikely..and unhealthy, but if you must, my diet can probably do it for you.

The diet you suggest here is very similar to what I have been doing for years now with a couple of exceptions. I don't do straight aerobic activity as I find it boring and lose interest easily. I try activites like intense sports, or group things. The other thing I do is, before bed I take in a a portion of protein, usually cottage cheese or whey powder so that I have protein on tap for the recovery process during sleep.

The problem is, I need to break through this plateau. I am already down to under 1500 calories a day (and it sucks) now, and I don't have time to do any more excise. On top of this, I'm on my feet at work all day lately. I have little energy left at the end of the day with no carbs and all this activity.

I need a NEW idea to break through the barrier. This is why I have opted for the pills, because I have not tried it before and I'm hoping that this will give me the edge I need to get ride of this cursed fat that will not leave.

As much as I would like to lose the unlikely 15 lbs so I might be closer to having the confidence to go to the beach, I know that it will not happen. I would just like to be on the right track again.

If you'd been on the diet I recommend for two years, you'd be dead. It's pretty close to fasting, just easier on your system. You could even try fasting,if you like..it works, but it takes discipline. You don't need a NEW idea, you need to stick to the fundamentals, or if you've hit your ideal weight goal, you need to understand that not everyone can look like an underwear model, and accept yourself for who you are without torturing yourself.

I have tried fasting in the past, the longest I lasted was one week with out food. I then got peer pressured into some chicken soup.

For the first 12 months that I was really serious about getting into shape, I was religious with my diet; never eating more than 1600 calories a day. I rarely deviated from my routine of cottage cheese, lettuce, chicken breasts, white fish, and whey powder. It sucked. Though I did manage to lose 20lbs and gain a lot of muscle mass.

In the last 6 months, I have had no progress. I account part of this to meeting my girlfriend who does get me to eat more, but I still try and keep with in the 1800 - 2000 calorie (at worst) range. This is not working for me anymore.

I am gaining fat around my abdomine, my pants fit tighter, and my man boobs are always there.

I'm not saying I want to be an underwear model, I just want to be able to go the beach.

Futhermore, everyone is not beautiful. Some people are quite repulsive. The sooner we can get over the "everyone is special in their own way" kindergarden phase that makes us feel better, the sooner we can get to work on self improvement whether it be physical, intellectual, or spirtual. The day I realized that I was going no where in my carrier and my love life because I was fat, ugly and not in good enough shape, is the day that I began to work at it. Accepting yourself is a cope out and an admittance of failure. Success comes from hard work or birthright, and I was not born with it.
