plateau?

Not sure if that's spelled correctly, but anyways..

My current stats:

age: 23
starting weight: 318+
weight: 300
height: 6'4

I'd like to lose at least 50 lbs. I've lost this same exact weight before doing a low carb, but I've tried it many times since then and can't stay motivated.

So, I've looked in to low-calorie dieting a bit....Starting Feb. 4, I've been eating approximately 2400 calories. Give or take 200 (but no more/less than that). I know this becaue I've been recording all calorie consumption from the time I wake up until I fall asleep.

I've been eating a lot healthier as well. I eat a little salad everyday, and wheat is only bread I eat. I make sure I don't overdo any condiments, etc. And veggies I put on sandwiches are like onions, a bit of lettuce, some tomatos - sliced. ( I factor it all of this into my calorie counter). The only fluids I take in are ice water and diet tea (which has 5 cals per 8oz servings), and I may drink 3-5 servings of that a day...OH. and the occasional cup or two of black coffee in the mornings...

I don't exercise much at all, I may take the dog to the park maybe two times a week to run around with for about 25-45 minutes but other than that I don't do much besides normal everyday activities. However, I would exercise if I felt I had the energy to. I just don't.

Soo this is why I'm here:

I've been stuck at around 295-300 for like two weeks now.

I realize that going from eating (most likely) 6000+ calories a day to 2400 is a huge jump, but for an overweight person like me, would that really cause my body to go into starvation mode? I guess it could be quite a shock losing that many a day, but it's kinda just cutting down to what I really only need ---BUT if this starvation mode is really happening, and if I continue this 2400 cal dieting, will my body adjust and get out of starvation mode eventually? I'm also assuming that this starvation mode is causing me to be so exhausted feeling all the time, will that ever go away?

I'm kinda of worried that if I start eating like 4000 calories a day to make this less of a fall in calorie intake, I won't feel like I'm cutting out enough and then I'll lose motivation to pay attention at all.

Any info or advice would be completely appreciated.

(oh. ps. I don't actually feel like I'm starving. I actually feel like I'm eating plenty. 3 plentiful meals a day - everyday).

Thanks!

No, you won't go into starvation mode eating 2400 calories a day. Two weeks is not extremely long for a plateau to last. I've had longer. When I hit a plateau, I basically continued the same diet. The weight loss always resumed at some point.

You really should exercise, in order to hold onto more of your muscle as you lose both fat and muscle when dieting.

"Wheat" bread is really not much different than white bread. Whole wheat is the kind you want.

Starvation mode is eating less than 50% of what your body needs in calories. Since I am assuming that you are man (please correct me if I am wrong) at 23 years old, starvation mode to you would be eating less than 1,300 to 1,400 calories per day. So you are not in starvation mode at what you are eating.

I recommend that you start logging your food intake everyday, from now on. Also you need to get some type of exercise going. Try just walking for a little bit and then keep increasing it.
