plateau

I don't know if "pigging out" is the answer but I have had success breaking my plateau by increasing calorie intake and decreasing the amount and intensity of the exercise I usually do. For me learning how to do that came in handy after I reached my goal weight. Now I follow a variation of a cyclic calorie diet that allows me to take in more calories on the weekends and less during the week. That way I have room to play when I want to and still maintain a healthy weight.

is it true that when u hit a plateau, you should pig out to get your metablosim back up?

Eh, pigging out is not advisable. It helps us fall back into the traps of old habits. So, what makes you think you are in a plateau? Sometimes, you really aren't in one at all but you think you are. If you think the scale is your indicator of a plateau, I'd say think again.

Often just changing things up will help break a plateau. You could zig-zag your calories, you could alter your exercise routine, you could do both!

Have you been adjusting your calorie intake as you've been losing weight?

Remember, your body strives to maintain its current state. That's one of the reasons we plateau. Our bodies adapt to what we're doing and then it ceases to work. So by changing it up, the body can't adapt and it can help you break those plateaus.

Great points!

I was simply trying to figure out if this person is taking measurements as well as using the scale. We often call plateaus the wrong things... because we don't see the scale move. But losing 3 inches is clearly a movement... so I wanted to make sure the OP knew what was going on with their body.

Number one mistake though is not reducing calories as we lose weight (or reducing them too low, creating a starvation mode).
