Plain Old Exercise

Hi everybody..

I have seen all the fads, all the diets, all the pills and will not use them.

I'm a 25 y/o male (soon to be 26) that is about 5'11" tall and ::gulp:: 303 lbs.

Nobody would ever guess it, but that's what the scale says. I suppose I "carry it well".

I am going to just start walking every day on my lunch break, and trying to watch out for fatty foods.

I would love any suggestions that any of you have.

do spend some time reading around the forum - there's a wealth of info especiallyin te stickied threads.

Try not to do too much all at once, this is a lifestyle change and you really have to pace yourself.

Get yourself an account at or one of the 100s of other free food journal sites on teh web and keep track of what you're eating.. the stickied threads in nutrition will point you to a link that will give you an appropriate amount of calories for the day.

Start yourself a diary in the diary section and keep track of your successes and challenges... and do ask questions..

welcome

I feel like a homer or fan boy writing this post, but I'd say check out the Men's Health Belly Off Program. (). It's a free, 8 week program that uses bodyweight circuits and interval training.

I personally started with Belly Off because I didn't feel like putting together my own program and this one seemed well thought out and simple. No weights or fancy gym required, just your body (though a fitball and a chinup bar help too).

Good luck!

I really wish I had some advice to offer you however I am just learning my self. I do want you to know that I wish you good luck and I am coming to know that if you really are determined you can achieve anything.

Walking is a great way to do start. Try and do 30 minutes and see if you can get your heart rate up over 110 or so by walking briskly.

You should also consider cutting out fatty foods and junk food 6 days a week. Leave yourself one cheat day where you can eat what you want. A reward day has helped me a lot.

Try some resistance training -- build some muscle-mass (even a little) and that'll really help you burn off the pounds. Muscle consumes calories 24/7 even when it's not being used.

Another thing that helped me is running.

I'm not talking about doing lots of miles or some kind of jogging program, I'm talking about running out to the car, running down the drive to your mailbox, running down the hall to the bathroom.

Even a few steps at a pace will burn a little more fat and lift your body metabolism.

Lots of small things (running, adding a little muscle, etc) make a big difference when they all work together.
