Physical limitations as of late- encouragement requested

This week has proven to be a real pain in the ass (literally).

First, I pulled a muscle in my lower back playing basketball, which has forced me to take it easy on a lot of types of exercise. This type of muscle strain (or whatever it is) has happened before and has actually made me bedridden for days at its worst. After about 4 days the pain is only residual this time, but I'm afraid to resume normal routines so soon because I don't want to make it worse. I've been to the doctor about the back problem before and he says its no big deal, but I need to take it easy while it still hurts.

To top it off, (sorry if this grosses you out) I have developed a nice case of painful hemorrhoids for this week that makes it nearly impossible to sit down on an exercise bike for more than a few minutes at a time. After so many months of consistent working out, I feel like I'm getting screwed and its out of my control. Exercise has helped me deal with stress so much lately, and now I have deadlines and meetings all this week to boot. Any words of support would be greatly appreciated.

That really sucks... but if you keep your food under control - you shouldn't have too much of a setback...

How often do you have these back issues? and while I'm no expert - nor should anything I say be taken as a substitute for actual medical advice from a medical professional... Are there any kind of stretching or core strengthening exercises that you can do to prevent back problems in the future..

as for your other issue... a high fiber diet - with lots and lots of liquids - and simple movement should prevent them from recurring..

good luck andhope you're on the mend soon

Thanks for the reply...the back issue has come every 18 months or so to varying severity over the past 5 years. You bring up a memory of what my doc said last time that I should try to do certain stretches or exercises that could help prevent this- thanks for jogging my memory! However, I don't know any specifics- I'm not sure what to do- I'll try to google it later- but let me know if you have any ideas or know of any good resources for that type of thing.

Thanks again for the tips- Marcus
