Philly Newbie!

Hi Everyone!! :waving:

I'm a 24 yr old female from Philadelphia. I go to the gym five days a week for at least an hour each day. The reason I decided to join the forum is I need some tips to keep me motivated at the gym.

I normally do 40 minutes on the elliptical, sometimes I walk for another 20 minutes to cool off before I go lift. I'm not big on strength training, I do it maybe 2 times a week.

Today I was at the gym and a trainer approached me. I told him my routine and he told me that I shouldn't do more than 25 minutes of cardio... What are your opinions on this? I thought he was just trying to make a sale...
 
Hi, welcome to the community. Are you inside of philly or in the burbs? I'm outside a small town known as Pottstown. My business partner is the head trainer at a gym closer to philly... in Hatfield actually. Not sure if you're familiar with these places.

Anywho, the trainer you talked to is a boob. Always ask "why" when a trainer tells you something arbitrarily like that. Make them explain themselves. They're too used to getting away with this kind of crap that they feel no reason to actually learn.
 
I grew up in Yardley: Bucks County. But I've been living in NE Philly for 7 yrs now.

The trainer told me after 25 mins I am burning muscle.... I laughed at him and told him I'd meet up with him later... and then successfully snuck out of the gym =)

I thought that the 40 mins of cardio I'm was actually helping me... well it felt like it did anyway. haha
