Personal Training salary inquiry.

I am considering applying for a personal training position @ a 24 hr fitness. I am interested in the expected salary for such a position.

Keep in mind:
I have no degree in sports, fitness or nutrition (I do have a degree
I have no certifications related to fitness
I have no experience training people

Any input is appreciated. I am trying to determine the "desired salary" question on the resume.

Thanks,

Ryan

I have no degree in sports, fitness or nutrition or have certifications related to fitness. were in the same boat, but if you look at my posts you can see I know more then most trainers, well you can't see yet but on other sites like bodybuilding.com. for your resume you can just say "average starting salary" or somthing to that extent. my point is that you don't need to go to school to know somthing, you go there to get a pice of paper saying you know this or that. hope this helps ';..;'

Thanks for the reply. However, I didn't need a pep talk.
:) I agree with you 100%. I have no paper on my side, but I know as much if not more than most in the field.

To answer my own questions I did a google search and found that trainers can expect between $9 and $37 per hour. With the average falling around $15.

I will look for you posts. I am interested in the expanse of your knowledge.

Thanks again,

Ryan

At a University I made $10/hr. When I worked at a huge Athletic Club, they charged the customer $45, I made $20. When I went out on my own and started a personal training program for a Tennis Center, I was charging 40-60 and keeping 75% of what the client paid.

This is definitely a hard question because each company has different standards of training. Now is the salary they're asking just for PT sessions or is it for something like floor hours where you just help members and keep the club clean? From what I've seen with other friends that are trying to be trainers their pay is usually $12/hr for PT and $8/hr for Floor.

And that's one thing you should talk to them about is about certifications and how it affects pay... And if you are currently working on a certification or plan on getting one, let them know, because if you show that you are looking to improve yourself, they'd probably be more interested in you.

And not to scare you, but they may test your knowledge of exercise depending on the place you're trying to get in. My friend who has no degree/cert/etc. was tested but luckily the week before he had that, I was helping him learn about how he was training and those just happened to be on the test. The questions were like "Write a program for Lower and/or Upper-Cross Syndrome. The different types of PNF stretching, etc..."
