Personal training and weight loss

Hi Everyone,
Okay so I weight about 150 and I do have a huge belly sticking out. I started working out. I walk a lot usually an hour in the morning, its more of leisure walk, then in the evening I go to the Gym and do about 40 minutes of Elliptical and stair climber and I have been on a 1500 calorie a day but I meet all the food groups and stuff. SO now i have got a personal trainer, I had my first day today and it was brutal, she made me lift weights on machines like 40 lbs it was horrible. I am just asking for advice on what people do to lose weight and do personal trainers really help or am I just wasting my time and money.

Well I'm what you might call a personal trainer though I'm nothing like the typical trainer you'll find in the typical gym setting. Either way, my perspective is biased.

But...

Okay so I weight about 150 and I do have a huge belly sticking out.

Huge is relative, I know. At 150 lbs I doubt your belly is huge, but that's irrelevant. Are you male or female?

How would you say your posture is?

SO now i have got a personal trainer, I had my first day today and it was brutal, she made me lift weights on machines like 40 lbs it was horrible.

Why would you say it was horrible? Did you not enjoy resistance training? Did you not like the trainer? What?

I am just asking for advice on what people do to lose weight

It varies depending on the person. And what's always optimal for the person isn't always what he or she is going to enjoy doing consistently.

But there are many ways to skin a cat. Some just take longer than others.

and do personal trainers really help or am I just wasting my time and money.

Here's the thing about the personal training profession. The vast majority of trainers aren't educated or qualified to be giving advice pertaining to the human body, fitness, and weight loss. That's the sad truth. Pretty much anyone can become a trainer with out doing a thing.

With the low level of hurdles to enter the industry, we're left with a diluted pool of dishonest and/or unqualified "professionals". In my experience, I'd say over 90% of trainers aren't worth a damn.

Did you read my post? Specifically this part:

If you have the motivation, a personal trainer can probably tweak your efforts and correct bad exercise techniques. That could be a huge benefit.

I think alot of people think a PT is substitution for motivation. If you want to goto the gym but dont feel you know what exercises to do or how to do them (or how to do them better) then a PT can be a great investment. If you arnt really motivated about the weight loss on your own, than a PT is just a waste of money.

Just my 2 cents.
