Personal Trainers being unprofessional

Hi

Well this is my first ever post here ,so I hope you dont mind me asking a quick question. So a few weeks ago I decided to book a block of sessions at a personal training studio.I have been going for the last two weeks, and I so far hate it so much. Its not the exercise that I hate, its the behaviour of the trainers. They bascially laugh at you while you are there in front of your face. They treat you like an complete idiot, and some of the time they are not even paying attention to you while you are exerciseing and have absolutely no intrest in what the client is doing.Even when they are saying encouraging things its really just an insult bascially ,its the jocks poking fun at the geeks and the fat girls right in front of their faces.

So any advice on how to get true this,I am probably being a little to sensitive here but the fact that I payed them a lot of money, and all Im really getting is being belitted everytime I go in there

Personal Trainers are usually seen as Sports Jerks. This way of thought is nothing but myth and lies.

Now, I do recognize that some ARE very disrespectful towards their clients. However, aren't there morally-incompetent people in every career? Some firefighters think they are mighty; some policemen think they have the right to arrest you; some politicians give themselves the right to lie. On another hand, some of these career-minded people are very polite, hard working individuals.

Here is a little tip for you and everyone out there that is looking around to hire a trainer. A trainer that offers a limited-time money back guarantee is usually a perfect option, since they have to please you or else you can have your money back. I, for one, offer a first session where it is free for the client. This is usually very great option for both of us. For one, the client can see how I work and if they think we can work well together. For me, it offers a chance to see if I can see "click" with my client.

The trainer-client relationship has to go both ways. If your trainer is not interested in what you want, then it is both your loses.

One last tip, you should sit-down with your trainer and tell him that either he or she has to change, or you will have to look elsewhere.

The thing to remember about personal trainers is that they are a professional service. So if they are not professional, or they are doing doing you a good service, you as the client have the right to fire them. Too many people get stuck thinking they are stuck with the trainer. Once you find a trainer who truly cares about your results, and not the commission of the training, you will start getting the results. The personal trainers that you mentioned are the exact reason I call myself a fitness coach, and not a personal trainer. Check out these articles for more information:

If you need more advice, feel free to email/PM. Hope this helps!

You should ask for a refund and go to another gym. If you go to a studio i believe that the personal trainers don't care for you as much because i've been to one and they exactly how you described them to be. You should get personal trained in a gym not a studio. lets say genesis or something because thats were i gym and the personal trainers that get hired in genesis are good.
What studio are you going to?

Just get a refund, tell them why and go to another gym to be personal trained because it will only make it worse for you going there. Tony D

If you struggle to get a refund discuss the matter with the Office of Fair Trading (or whatever you guys call is). Here on the Gold Coast, Australia you would be entitled to a refund as they have breached the contract by not provide the level of customer service they offered.

Write a letter to the studio owner demanding your money back and explain why. No need to be treated that way. Get those idiots fired. Then move on. There are as many PTs out there as there are lawyers. Find a better fit.

i can relate to what you are saying.
but as some members said before me in every profession you can find good and bad peopl.
as to your feeling you are being treated badly and having flashbacks from you high school years (dont we all:)) i can tell you from my experience i was a member in a gym called holmes place which is an international chain of clubs. there i had a membership to the club and i tried the gym and talked to the gym trainers before i choose one of them to be my PT.
i personally think PT is a great way to get in shape but in order to keep it i always suggest to get friendly with your PT and ask as many questions as you can so in the long run you will have the right tools to make you own training work better for you.
i always suggest to get a PT who have no big exepirince, i know its sounds wierd but they need to prove themselfs and so they will make an extra effort for you
do i sound weird saying that? :)

Michael,

it does sound like you need to hunt around for a better trainer. They most certainly shouldn't be staring at the TV, gawping at other men/women in the gym or be completely dis-intersted in what you're doing.

As said above, Not all trainers are created equal so go find one who you can have a good training relationship with and gets you the results you should have.

Finish whatever you paid for and move on. I have trained many people and I enjoy it and give them my full attention. I'm sorry that these folks are giving the rest of us a bad rep. Hopefully you have found something better.
