I'm hoping this is the correct place to ask this question.
Throughout the day I sneak down and do a mile or two on a stationary bike. I hover around 14-17 mph and usually manage about 2 miles in about 8 minutes before I have to run back to work. I figure instead of wandering around the refrigerator I would just start moving; I have a job where I sit all day long (9-12 hours a day).
I usually manage to get in about 10 miles during the day then I do about 5 after work. Speed stays about the same and as far as the resistance, I'd say low-medium. If it is important, I am very much overweight but I am not inactive for the most part (except at work). After doing 2 miles my heart rate is up a bit but I'm not exhausted or really sweating.
Is what I am doing effective at all? Is it better just to do 15 miles at a consistent speed all in one shot?
