People who use freeweights

Excellent. So I'll aim for 2000 or 2100 calories a day and see how that goes!

Right, and remember, I say this often. You are not signing a contract and locking yourself into some crazy deal. Start with 2000-2100 and track your weight and measurements. If things are not heading in the direction you had hoped, make adjustments. I would make adjustments at 2 week intervals, unless something crazy is happening.

Exactly! I just started a journal here and I'm going to start using fitday again. Thank you so very much for your help. :D I will go shopping today for some bigger weights.

You are quite welcome, and I already visited your journal. *wink*

Gee, I find myself repeating this same story over and over again around this forum. And honestly, I don't mind it. :) I hope people start catching on though. There is an overwhelming misconception around this board that you can "tone" with weights.

Guess what. You can't. It is a physiological impossibility.

Toning is a function of fat loss which is primarily a function of nutrition and energy expenditure.

Resistance training with weights is merely a means to increase muscle mass while bulking (me) or to maintain muscle mass while cutting (you).

Does that make sense?

Steve,

I was simply trying to give some helpful advice. Although we have a difference in opinion does not necessarily mean that either of us is incorrect . That’s the beauty of a COMMUNITY forum. Everyone gets to express their feeling and experiences openly in an encouraging and open environment:) !

Best of luck.

So wait. I really have been trying to be helpful around here and I promise I am not looking to argue with you. I am open for some good ole scientific debate if you'd like. :)

You are telling me that because this is a COMMUNITY, opinions can override facts? Seriously?

When I said it was a physiological impossibility, it was not an opinion. I really don't base my recommendations off of opinions, even though I overly use "IMO."

I'm not looking to argue either. That was the whole point of the post!
We're all here for the same reason. Support and a little encouragement. :)

Sorry London, but hes right. Inaccurate info or a wrong opinion can lead to serious injury.

I am all for encouragement and support, I really am. It is my profession, and I have been doing it for a majority of my life with relatively high success.

That said, that does not mean I am ok with misinformation that is flat out wrong. You were not encouraging when you said:

But just to throw in a woman's perspective...the goal is to replace fat with muscle and tone not bulk. Does that sound right?

You were actually providing some misinformation, which I really don't have a problem with. But I will correct it, like I did in a professional manner.

That is all.

well so much for nurturing environment...

I'll guess I'll just find a tread filled with a little less testosterone...

Hey come on... it really is not like that AT ALL. Put yourself in my place. Somebody comes into a forum based on information that you are an expert in. They say some things that are obviously inaccurate. You correct them politely.

They then, come back to you by saying... we are entitled to our own opinions and because this is a community, opinions count.

Life just doesn't work like that. Yes, opinions count for a lot, but when there is already a proven theory of science based on the point of discussion, opinions suddenly become of little value.

I am really not trying to be rude at all. I just want the members to have the best possible advice to go along with all the great encouragement and motivation around her. :)
