PaintedDaisy's weight loss diary

166.2 and WOmen's Health Wedding WOrkout day 1 recap

Yesterday I started my wedding workout. Whew! It's a good one! I'm following this Upper Body one. Yesterday was upper body strength training plus a power cardio session. With the warm up and cool down it was a 30 minute excursion. And boy, do I feel it today! Tonight is abs/core and I think cardio again.

For a workout dvd, and for women encroaching on their wedding day, I'd give this workout a thumbs up (so far!). I love how throughout the workout the instructor says things like "Keep this up and you'll look great on your special day!" and during the "boxing" routine she says "Show off that engagement ring!"

Why did I like that cheezy motivation? Because it was actually very motivating. It kept me going when I wanted to just stop becaue I was blinded by sweat. It reminded me that I will look really hot in my wedding dress PLUS won't have to fear wearing a bikini in Cancun.

But yes, aside from the cheezy motivation, it made me sweat a lot! And it really worked my arms and chest area. Today, I feel extremely sore in the guns but also feel a bit sexier. Imagine how I'll feel in 2 weeks!

I started a "proper" blog

I was inspired by visiting some blogs today at Women's Health and thought to myself "Myself, I can do this too! I can have an inspiring blog to plot my progress and inspire others to lose weight too!"

So there, done and done. I plan on weighing in every Friday there and also doing my measurements maybe every 2 weeks.

Now I hope my freakin' arm heals alright. I overdid it the other day with weight training and well, now I can't bend my arm. So going to keep icing it and if it's not better by Friday I will talk to my doctor about it (just in case it's more serious than I think).

U r so pretty! Mike is blessed to have ya! :jump:
Hv u set a date yet? I think i might hv missed if u did post it.
It's awesome too that u r starting a blog... but dun forget us here ok?

Doing good!

I will be weighing in on Friday but boy, is it ever hard to stay away from the scale. But I swore I wouldn't get on there until Friday morning. I figure if I have the willpower to do that, then that's definitely a start!

I've been doing realllly well though. Last week I dropped a few pounds. This weekend I may have gained, but so far this week I've been doing great! *pats herself on the back* No junk food at all (except airpopped popcorn last night, which was I think a well-deserved yet healthy treat).

I've been doing the healthy snacks at work thing- which is awesome because I don't get super hungry and pig out at lunch and dinner. My current snacks? Either fat-free yogurt or all-bran snack pack (100 cal things). I also got nuts last week which I'll probably bring in for afternoon snacks. Oh, and apples and bananas.

For example, for breakfast today I had rye toast with peanut butter and a glass of soy milk. Then at around 10 I had an apple, and then a yogurt. It's a bit after 11 now and at noon I'll have my lunch- a salad with some crackers and harvarti cheese and maybe a cup of low-cal cranberry juice.

Dinner is a bit difficult- we have a landlady that cooks for us (which is so awesome!). She's a wonderful cook and everything she makes is usually homemade and healthy, but we never know what it is until that night. I figure if I control my breakfast and lunch and mid-day snacks, then dinner shouldn't cause too many problems.

Especially since I now workout before dinner, right after work. Hence, the afternoon nuts to snack on and probably a banana at around 4:30. Last night's pre-dinner workout was soooo awesome. Afterwards we jumped in the lake to cool off, had a quick swim, then had dinner. I was barely hungry, which is why I like working out before dinner, so had a big salad with fresh veggies on the side.

I can't wait to weigh in on Friday. That being said, I don't think I'll be too discouraged if the scale isn't where I'd like it to be. I figure I need at least 2 weeks of my workout regimen and this healthy eating to see some actual results. Maybe I'll actually see 150 by the end of the summer!

cardio

You have to do at least 30 minutes of cardio for it to be worth while...
Add some more time to your cardio to lose weight.

Gar

Well I gained about 5 lbs this week. This week I also ate extremely healthy and worked out every day (except yesterday, went swimming instead though).

Is it normal to gain before loss? My muscles are definitely sore.

Anyway, the way I see it I know I'm doing things right. Big salads for dinner and lots more veggies in my diet. Small snacks twice a day (apples or yogurt or all bran bars). Healthy lunches too, and my usual healthy breakfasts. And dinner, well yes, dinner is usually lettuce and veggies and then a small serving of meat and some kind of complex carb. Evening snack? Airpopped popcorn.

So yes, I've gained, but I also know the scale isn't the be all and end all. It took me two years to gain 30 lbs, so it may take my body a bit of adjusting to start losing fat.

And for the above commenter- I think 26 minutes of power cardio is definitely enough and totally worthwhile. If every muscle in my body is being used and I finish my workout with that last burst of everything I have and am dripping in sweat like never before, then well, that's worthwhile to me.

are you seeing a change in measurements?

I love that you're not overly stressing over the number on the scale, keep doing the right things and it will move eventually...

I haven't checked my measurements this week. Was waiting until today but haven't had time yet. I'm anxious to see if anything there has changed! I'll have to wait until tonight now :)

Measurements

Ok, after reading Malificent's post on here I remembered I had a tape measure in my desk here at work. So before my coworkers arrived, I pulled it out, ran upstairs and took my measurements. Here's what I recorded in my blog:

July 6, 2007
Weight: 170.2
Measurements:
Waist: 32.5 (same)
Right Thigh/Left Thigh: 23.5 (was 24.5 on June 20)
Left upper arm: 12" (was 13" June 20)
Bust: 39.5" (was 40" June 20)
Hips: 44" (was 44.5 June 20)
Neck: 14" (same as before)
Weight loss this week: +6 lbs (was 164.4 on June 27)

Ok, so I gained this week and that sucks. But look at my measurements! Something is definitely working!!

who cares what the scale says (I know easy to say, wait'll i whine abouot the scale :)--

look at all that progress you've made missy :)

way to go!

Thanks! I'm definitely smiling today after seeing the changes in measurements. The weigh-in this morning was depressing, but now I know something is going right and the scale will go down eventually!

Just rambling for today

It's tough to exercise these days.
You see, my fiance and I live in cabin which is about 20 feet away from a homestead. We go there for dinner, showers and bathroom breaks. Because we eat dinner there, we don't really have any control over what time we'll eat and even what we'll eat. We're lucky that the food is pretty much always healthy and homemade. But it makes it hard for me to workout when I really want to- right after work before dinner. That's when I have the most energy and zip.

So that's been my problem lately. That and house buying and apartment moving. It seems like every evening we have things to do, like pack more or get laundry done or boil water to wash dishes.
That said, we have been semi-active. We swim pretty much every night and I've done things like given up pop (diet pop was a huge addiction for me!) and now it's bye-bye french fries!

That's all I wanted to write. Just my frusteration with the lack of space and time. When we move into our home we can't wait for the freedom it will bring! We'll have a weight room and a big family room (great for my exercise dvds!). I'll be able to come home from work and workout or even if I want to do it after dinner I'll be able to have the space to do it (living in a tiny cabin has really made me appreciate the little things in life, like running water!).
