pain in BOTH ankles

yet another problem hindering me from really jumping 100% in my newly created fitness routine :(

i dont think i sprained my ankles or jump off of anything high, i have just recently gotten active after 6 months of doing nothing
im only 21 so i doubt its arthritis

i just bought some new running shoes and it is much WORST because my older ones had a bit of support for my ankles (but were not running shoes)

Does anyone else have a clue what this may be, and what i should do to heal them?

Well if you have been inactive for 6 months I would imagine you should start off slow because it might not only be ankles that give you problems if you try to go from inactivity to a lot of activity. I say give them some time to get used to your workout routine and see how things are. This reminds me of episode of seinfeld where george has to go in rehab after falling down some stairs due to extreme inactivity.

I'd monitor the pain. Be super careful, I started with a mild pain, which had happened before. I thought it'd go away. HOwever, it increased and within two months I was in crutches and completely unable to walk. I ended up in the emergency room so they could find out what was going on. After several tests including xrays they found nothing. It took a group of specialists and an MRI to find out I had osthechondritis, which happens very often in the ankles and amzingly to young people. Mine was in the right ankle. (Look for more information about it on the internet.).

My intention isnt to scare you, but to warn you and keep monitoring the pain.
Always listen to your body.

i tried running through it and it was too much
im gonna try going light on it, prolly get some support on them and keep the pressure off for a while and just hit the bike
now that i think about it, the very first time i started going active again was when i played some basketball... i was accelerating and stopping as fast as i could just to get a workout and when i was done i raced my bro for about 300m where i just ran as fast as i could
i dont remember ankle pain immediately following that and i was already getting shin splits before that but im also 100% sure i never got this current ankle pain before that

it appears i spoke too soon
i was able to run once without pain but the next morning i felt the pain coming back
im going to let off them longer this time

running does not require ankle support, if you are running properly, and are running on a fairly smooth tourain.

new shoes??

shoes are the most important element of the sport- next to form in my opinion... when I run correctly barefoot is awesome!

anyhow... arches and width. something tells me to ask if you are swinging your foot behind you.. running like a rag-doll?

i just got new shoes

im not expert but im pretty certain running CAN reaggravate an ankle injury that has not fully healed

the injury is new info to me.

recovery from injury is something I do regularly. But, I have no advice for you since I didn't even know you were injured. :-(

you are giving "thin" information.

All shoes are not created equal.

I know alot about this topic, but very little about your situation.

OH, one other thing that you may have missed. If you are 'rag doll' running. Meaning: flipping or swinging your feet around in the back of your stride, it makes your "ANKLE" have to re-stable itself with every step; thus giving you sore ankles. Then these sore ankles have a tendency to contribute to more of the same (wagging your feet in the back).

It is very common with newer runners because they think they are "staying loose," when in fact they are straining themselves further.

Good luck to you. And congratz on running. It is "in the run" that the athlete dwells.
