Overworking?

Okay, so i'm a 16 year old (yes i am very young), who weighs around 200 pounds, and is 6 foot 1. my body fat is around 18%, give or take, and i wanted some advice. I am pursuing a career in the U.S. Army, and i plan to leave right after i get my diploma. I have done very little physical activity in the past, but i am still very skinny. I want to become fit enough to go through basic training without having to worry about whether or not i can do the exercises. i want to be able to get through it with as little complications as possible. to do this, i've been working out every other hour on the hour, 4 times a day. i do as many Push-ups, Leg-ups, Squats, and Planks as i possibly can each workout. In addition to this, after every 3rd workout, i walk around my neighborhood for about 30 minutes to an hour. i've been watching my caloric intake, and drinking nothing but water all day. i've been doing this for 3 days. Am i overworking myself? am i doing too much in too little a time? what should i do to revise my plan, and how can i increase both efficiency and effectiveness?

If it's endurance you're shooting for, then you're hitting the nail on the head. As far as building strength, what you're doing isn't going to help.

If you want overall strength and endurance, but aren't worried about getting "big", I would get on a basic 5x5 and do cardio and eat around your maintenance cals every day . You'll get stronger, but you want get huge, as the cardio keeps that from happening. You'll still have endurance, but there will be a ceiling as to how much you're going to be able to lift eventually, as you are not just resting, eating and lifting weights. Cardio and getting big do not go hand in hand. I would do compound lifts on Monday and Thursday and cardio on Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday. Not just running. Stairs, boxing, battle ropes, jump rope, ect. Mix it up so you don't get sick of it.

Google "Starting Strength" and "TDEE Calculator" to figure out how much you should eat every day, and read up. You can never know too much. I'd be happy to answer any questions I can.

Of course you are overworking. "Drinking nothing but water" is just going to make you weak not strong. Manage your food intake while concentrating on proteins. Include some weights in your workout. And don't workout every other hour. Just dedicate a maximum of two hours a day to it.

I sure he meant that the only thing he drinks is water, which there's nothing wrong with. 90% of what I drink every day is water. And 2 hours a day is still too much. If you have to work out 2 hours a day to stay in shape, you don't know how to manage your diet correctly, and on top of that, if you're weight training every day and are not a professional body builder, you're doing it wrong and you're never going to see substantial gains, as your body is never getting the chance to recover, unless you're spending the other 22 hours sleeping.
