Overdeveloped Muscle

could anyone help me with this? i tennis everyday for high school and a few other various times during the week, and about a week ago i noticed that my right hand had a swell in it. it's the muscle that, when you have you fingers straight and side by side, makes the bulge under your pointer finger and beside the thumb (dunno what it's called). well, i told my coach today and he said it was an overdeveloped muslce and that i should try to stretch it out and ice it every so often. it's been annoying me and every now and then it hurts when i do serves overheads. so could any of you tell me what else i should try to get rid of it? if you could, thanks a bunch

Rest and ice it untill the pain goes away. Everytime you play tennis, your making it worse, so you need to take a good week off and see how it is.

i find it hardto beleive its actaully overdeveloped, more likely to be a strain or something of the muscle or tendon. if its still bad see a physio

Hahaha. I used to play tennis 3-5 hours per day. In my 'prime' (I'm 14 and can use that word. Oh yeah!) I used to get all kinds of blisters, and the skin under all my fingers is still hard.

Ice it, wrap it and don't play for a week, while icing it daily. Then maybe look into putting a new grip on your racket. It could also be related to the size of your grip and the pressure your putting on it. So maybe use over grips to make the grip bigger, or if need be look at getting the grip made smaller (it is possible). Also try relaxing when you play, that could help.

Once you rest it for a while, you might also want to try doing some exercises for the rest of your hands, grip and forearms. Not only might they help with that problem, but they will definately increase your hitting power. Try wrist curls, a hand gripper, etc. One simple exercise I have used, and read is good for combating carpal tunnel syndrome/repetitive stress injuries of the hand/wrist is just grabbing a piece of newspaper by the corner and using just one hand, crumpling it inot a tight ball.
