Over exhausted or just weak?

Hey guys I've got a question.

Am I over-exhausting myself or are my muscles just weak?

You see the problem is that I can't seem to go to the gym again even after a 48-Hour recovery period. After I work out I literally can't move the next day to even put on my shirt and then by the second day I still can't fully function without taking caution to hurt myself.

So, am I over-exhausting myself or are my muscles just weak? ALSO, is there a way I can reduce the muscle strain? I've tried going into the sauna for 20-Minutes on my recovery day and even tried sitting in the hot-tub for 30-minutes and also tried a cold pack as well...but it seems to me that nothing works.

Thanks guys!

It sounds like you could be overdoing it - but what exactly are you doing in your workout? And what stretches are you doing for them?

You don't mention stretching- I don't want to assume anything, so what do you do to stretch and for how long?

I don't do much muscular buyilding work, infact the bulk of my workouts are cardio but even then, if I don't stretch, I am guarenteed muscle pain for the next day of not the next week. If I do any muscle or resistance training I need to stretch even more so.
Its so definate that I can workout which area I've forgotten to stretch by the pain I get the next day. Pain in any area will tire you out so make sure you are stretching and also holding your stretching for a decent amount of time, anything less then 30 seconds is not going to do much, hold for a minute your getting on for a good stretch, 2 minutes is idea (and thats per pose not all of them!) I'm sure your aware of that but I just thought I'd check it out first!

Similarly warming up is also important- not stretching but warming up, make sure your body is warm and you feel fairly flexible before you begin any lifting or similar to prevent any strain.

Otherwise check your diet, make sure your getting enough potassium and not over doing the fluids. By all means drink enough water every day but if you do drink more then your body needs, your potassium levels will not be in balance. Low potassium levels can give muscular problems and cramp. Foods rich in potassium are bananas, tinned food and table salt. But its a careful balance, don't over do it!

And also try as the above poster says, not over working any one area, if you do you will get muscle pain however long you stretch for. Yes its your muscles building but tone it down a bit or you naturally knock yourself out for the next week if not weeks!

If it all continues, maybe try your doctor? it could be an underlying problem like a virus or bug that your body needs to recover from.
