Over Eater Seeks Weight Loss

Hello, I'm Arya and I have a problem.
I'm addicted to food. I suffer from the Over-eater/bulimia disorder and even after treatment for the bulimia part I can't seem to get control over that nasty over eater monster.

Food is one of the hardest addictions in my thought process because you can't just NOT eat food like you could just NOT do drugs or alcohol.

So I figured I'd join a forum for weight loss where there would be people to encourage me who have been or are overweight. It's one thing for your thin friends to say it'll be easy to lose weight, and another to hear the facts and tips from people actually losing! :)

My goal is to lose around 100lb to finally be at a healthy weight for my body type. I'm so nervous >< I am giving myself a year to lose it. I won't be too upset if I don't reach the full 100 by one year, but I am upset with myself for letting food rule my thoughts and my behaviours.

Sooo, yeah. Hi :)

Hi, and welcome to the forum :)

I don't have the same issues surrounding overeating as you (they must have been really difficult and I can't even begin to understand), but I do have a voracious appetite and get low blood sugar (dizzy/ faint) if I don't eat every few waking hours, so I'm someone quite often labelled (including by myself) as an overeater. Most of my skinny friends just say "don't eat so much, you pig" (charming). But it is possible to lose weight and still keep up with your appetite!

What strategies do you plan to use to help you lose weight? I'm a calorie counter, and I'm finding that works incredibly well for me (where other things haven't), but I don't want to force my whole spiel on you unless you want to hear it.

I'd recommend to make full use of the forum that you read around, particularly the "stickied" posts (which contain some very useful information), the diaries (to see what other people are doing and how it's working for them), and the before-after section (for inspiration). If you feel up to it, a diary is an excellent way to get motivation and support, and to track your progress.

Hey :D

Your best bet is to make a diary in our diary section on here. A lot of people post there every day (or in my case, 100000 times a day ;)) and it's a great place to get support.

100lbs sounds quite intimidating, huh? Maybe make smaller goals? Say 5lbs or 10lbs and then it seems more manageable.

Welcome to the forum! Look forward to seeing you post more!

I used to weight 138lbs too...and I LOVE to eat too...i had used a meal replacement shake to control my calories intake...and have successful lost 20lbs in 3 months...I understand it is difficult not to eat food...so i would suggest you used the meal replacement shake...as it makes you filling so you won't be looking for other unhealthy food to eat...my goal is to lose another 8 pounds and i am working on it too

You are dealing with something very complicated that I definately don't fully understand. But it does seem to me that addictions are all about the buzz. So for food, I think salt, sugar and chocolate are what give us buzzes. I have slowly taken these out of my diet, and amazingly when I have pizza, it tastes too salty. Sugary things are too sweet. Can you just make a conscious effort to slow down for your body to adjust?
