One last time...

Hi all, did my first day today. Weighed in this morning at 200lbs. Pretty upsetting but i figure I gotta start somewhere, right? Anyway my approach is to eat clean. Meaning everything I put in my mouth will be as natural and healthy as possible! Also going to do spinning, hot yoga and a bootcamp several times/wk. Hopefully I'll make it to my goal if 150!!

DAY 1

Breakfast
Quinoa porridge with bit of rice milk
2 eggs scrambled
Green tea

Snack
8 rice crackers with organic pumpkin seed butter
Carrot/celery sticks
Ginger detox tea

Lunch
Lentils/brown rice
Plain fat free bio yogurt with tbsp organic honey

Dinner
Chicken breast
Brussle sprouts
Beet/carrot/celery/spinach juice made in my juicer (awful!!! *shudders*)

Snack
Rice cake, pumpkin seed butter, tsp organic honey
Herbal tea

Loads of water throughout the day! Seems like a lot of food but when I add it up it was just under 1500. Trying to stay around the 1600 mark so it's a little under though I did not work out today so I'm ok with eating a little less.

Your stories are keeping me motivated, thanks all :)

Day 2

Went well eating wise though didn't work out. To be honest I'm a little intimidated by the gym and the past two days have found excuses not to go. That sucks. I know the key to weight loss is a healthy balance between proper eating and exercise. I just need to suck it up and do it!!

Breakfast
Quinoa porridge
Rice milk
Detox tea (Ginger, lemongrass, etc)

Snack
Fat free yogurt with a smidge of organic honey

Lunch
Chicken breast
Brown rice w lentils
Herbal tea

Snack
Rice crackers with organic pumpkin seed butter

Dinner
Big salad with carrots, spinach, lemon juice and olive oil for dressing
Fresh salmon
Herbal tea

Again loads of water. I aim for 2-3 liters/day. Feeling SO tired! Like exhausted. Maybe my body just getting used to healthier eating...? Anyone had experience with this before?

Cheers :)

I understand your feeling about not wanting to go to the gym. I work early shift, so I don't go in the mornings, then when I get home I feel "too tired" to go. But... I suck it up and go anyways. Then after the workout I feel sooo much better, more NRG. Just think of the positives that you are doing and how good it is for you.....
Your doing Great!

Thanks iq_rider! By the time I get home from worked I'm have NO energy!! I'll take your advice and just go anyway. We'll see how it goes.

Anyone dealt with insecurities at the gym? I've been in the past but was in good shape then. Nervous to be the "fat person" at the gym...

I can understand the gym deal, I close at work and get out around 8:15 but I go anyways afterwards I find if
Packing my gym clothes
Makes it easier to go and I try and get home around 9 I live close to gym and work like 2 mile distance between them all it helps but I'm a night owl anyways and don't get to bed till 1 or 2 but that's just me and how I function and gives time for my dinner to digest

IMO there are 2 ways to look at this.
1. It takes a strong person to be at the GYM... be that strong person that you know you are. You are not there for them... you are there for you!

2. For encouragement.. think of someone else from the outside looking in, if they see us working out, they can do it too! (also.. maybe some of those "in-shape" people were in our shoes not too long ago )

Very good points!! Thanks guys! I'm gonna bring my gym bag with me to work and go straight from the office. Won't have time to lay on couch and come up with reasons I shouldn't go!

Also, thanks for pointing out that some of those in shape ppl may have been in our shoes. Never really thought of that!! Makes me feel a bit better.

Really appreciate your help guys :)

I usually go right to the gym after work also. If I come home first I get distracted and lazy and never go.

I was intimidated when I first started going to the gym too...but I'm not there to please other people and don't really care what they think. I am there to better MY life...just focus on you and not so much the people around you :)

It sounds like you're doing really well so far with eating healthy balanced meals!

If you don't end up liking the gym there are myriad other means of working out - why not just walk around the neighborhood for an hour or jog in a park or do an exercise video until you feel more comfortable exercising in a "public" setting?

Again tons of water! Tomorrow my goal is to get to the gym after work! I downloaded a couch to 10k ap on my iPhone. Hoping to start tomorrow...I trained for a half marathon about 3 years ago but never got to do it. I'm so out of shape now but would love to work back up to it and actually complete the race! There is one in May 2011 in my area to raise money for pediatric cancer. It would be a huge accomplishment for me and a great cause. I'd love to be able to participate. Have a LONG way to go though. Hope I can do it!

Hey, great job so far, I'm curious about the 'detox tea' though. I think that is going to set you up for disappointment when you step on the scale. All detox tea will do is make you lose water weight due to..well..making the bathroom your friend. Recently I see you listing herbal tea instead. Did you switch to just regular tea? I hope so. You don't need the detox stuff to lose weight :)

Hi! I just wanted to stop by and say great job so far! You're doing really well. and for feeling insecure at the gym, I think we all have had a little bit of that feeling. I know I do, but I find that once I'm working out, I end up just thinking about pushing myself just a little bit further, and I stop caring about the other people in the room.

Keep up the great work!

p.s. What kind of goat cheese are you having? A friend and I raise goats, and we make cheese sometimes. (yum)

Thanks for the support all!

To answer the question about the detox tea...it's not that kind of detox tea. I agree with you 100%. I have it in front of me and the ingredients are: rooibos, sencha, Ginger, juniper berries and lemongrass. Nothing to make me excrete loads of water. Just healthy herbs :)

Thanks for the support and advice!!

Cheers :)

Just woke up and worried about today. I have a BBQ to go to. I know there will be tons of temptations. I just really wanna succeed this time. I want to get to my goal, I want to do that half marathon in may. But I've had so many "day 1s" and within a few wks I end up falling off the wagon. A few things that are different this time: my weight is at an all time high, I'm not "dieting" rather making healthier choices, I have a goal event. My brother is getting married and I can't phathom putting on a dress! I would like this to be a permanant lifestyle change but am using the wedding as a way to help fight against temptation. Every time I feel like gorging on junk food I remind myself that if I stick to this I can buy a new dress that I feel great in if I can just stick to being healthier.

I feel like I'm waiting to fall off the wagon because I've tried so many times. When I was in university a friend and I lost weight together. It was the healthiest I've been. We made healthy meals together, worked out together, it was fun! But now I just feel like I've become so frustrated and it's like I just want to get to my goal as fast as I can, which is a terrible attitude that will surely lead to failure. I guess I just wish I could get it out of my head that I'm going to fail.

Anyone ever feel like this? How can I get more confident that I will succeed?

Well....BBQ didn't go as I had hoped. I ate some appetizers, full dinner and dessert. My portion sizes were very reasonable, I didn't overdo it. Basically I had a few mini quiche, mini sausage rolls, nacho dip. For dinner I had a filet mingion, 1/2 cup whole wheat pasta, eggplant, salad and piece of cake for dessert (we were trying possible wedding cakes for my brothers wedding).

I made the mistake of arriving famished. I was very rushed that morning and unfortunately only had time for a small bowl of quinoa porridge. I actually had the shakes I was SO hungry! Bad move...

It wasn't terrible, not like I binged on fast food so it could have been worse. And aside from the porridge that was all I ate the entire day. So I don't think it will have too bad an impact on my weight loss.

I learned never go to an event hungry and now have motivation to push harder at the gym on Monday!

DAY 6

Okie doke....back on track!

Took the dog on a big long walk and stuck to healthy eating.

Breakfast
Fresh grapefruit and Ginger juice from my juicer
Quinoa porridge
Rice milk

Lunch
wheatgrass juice
Rice cakes with pumpkin seed butter and organic honey
Herbal tea

Snack
Plain yogurt
Carrot sticks
Green tea

Dinner
Two chicken legs
Roasted root veggies (turnip, parsnip, carrots)
Rice

Snack
Hummus and rice crackers

Feel starving today! Could have eating waaay more! Craving chocolate like craaazy!!

Hello! Just stopping by to say good luck on the weight loss journey! I'm a huge fan of the couch to 5K app, haven't started the 10K app yet but it's there, just hanging out, waiting for me to begin! My goal is a half marathon next year, too. I hope hearing from everyone has made you more comfortable about going to the gym! I think people are a lot more supportive and nice than we expect them to be... and besides, most of the people at the gym are focusing on themselves and their own goals. Be proud for being there, think about yourself, and feel good doing it!
