One Bodypart a Day

I heard if i do one bodypart a day for about an hour a day, it's really good for muscle growth. Is this true? Like if i did chest on monday, back on tuesday, shoulders on wednesday, biceps and triceps on thursday, legs on friday, and abs and obliques on saturday, would that help me at all? It seems to me like it's too much work, doing an hour for all of those by themselves. But that's what my friend who used to be skinny and got buff told me to do.

doing one body part for an hour is probably going to be a bad idea and will result in little muscle growth, injury, massive lactic build up, little applied strength and a waste of time.

i've been hearing a lot that anything over 45 minutes of weight lifting is destructive...so breaking it into two half hour sessions (morning and evening) may be better.

what is it that u want?

size?
strength?

breaking up ur lifting sessions is a bad idea as well. your muscles need to heal for at least 48 hours after you basically tear them apart. that evening session will just be regressive instead of progressive. and if u want size, lighter weights (not aerobically light that u can do 20 reps no problem) and more reps.
 
Don't split your workout sessions up in the same day. 1 hour per body part will probobly result in overkill. Most guys I know do a 2 bodyparts per day sort of thing, a few exercises that hit the muscles in different ways for a total of about an hour.
 
I do two groups every second day, 4 movements on each group and don't really look at the clock I'm done when I have completed 3 sets of 8 on each movement. Seems to work for me.
 
I'm a huge fan of Dan John but he also prescribes very often to full body movements. If you will look at the strongmen of old (Arthur Saxon), they built their strength and bodies on fullbody workouts lifting for pure strength. In fact, even most bodybuilders will work more than 1 bodypart for the workout except for pre-comp time, this is when they start using isolation methods as a majority of their workout.
 
Perhaps good in theory, but realisticly you'll be getting more than the one part a day. I mean, how do you expect to do an hour's chest workout without hitting the tris as secondary muscles. Equally, how are you planning on doing your back without hitting the biceps secondarily...?
 
i guess i was think more "one lift a day" than "one bodypart." i try to stick to the compund movements, so im always hitting some secondary muscles.

Ok i decided to do this instead, a push/pull routine. Like this:

Monday: Chest, Triceps, front and side deltoids, push legs, abs, obliques

Wednesday: Back, biceps, traps and rear deltoids, lower back, pull legs

Friday: Start over

So i'm working out every 2 days, but it's about 4 days until i do the same workout again. Sound good?
 
guys I'm not saying I know everything but I've talked to many huge, hulking beasts at multiple gyms and asked them for tips. I remember all of them recommending the one body part a day routine because the muscles "get blasted." thus you eat more, giving those muscles more nutrition, and also more recovery time.
 
This is somewhat related (at least in my mind). I read an article once that said if you only worked out your right arm, your left arm would still get stronger - it has something to do with the way your body tries to balance itself or something. I don't remember specifics, but I wonder if this applies to the one body part theory. If you only workout your arms, do your other body parts also get stronger?
 
I have no idea, i just decided to stick with a push/pull routine because so far it really feels like i can hit my muscles hard enough to where i don't think i need one day per muscle group.
