One big cry for help!!

It's been a week now since I started this weight loss journey, and today is the first today I stepped on the scales and hadn't lost a thing. It's been a steady 1 pound less on the scales each day - I started at 178 and as of yesterday I was 172. Still 172 today.

I know I can't expect to continue losing 1lb a day but I feel somewhat demotivated today and fed up because for the past 8 days now I've been doing a minimum of 1 hr Zumba (cardio) a day and tracking all my calories on Livestrong.com.

My question is this - is there something more I can be doing to boost the weight loss? Should I have a 'cheat' day and eat more food so my body doesn't get used to this new routine? I'm completely lost and scared of exceeding my calories because I've gone from 12 st 11 to 12 st 4 and I don't want to regain it. :(

This is my calories consumed/burnt for last week. My BMR started at 1622.

02/09/2011 CONSUMED - 1540 BURNT - 750
NET CALORIES - 790

03/09/2011 CONSUMED - 1614 BURNT - 750

05/09/2011 CONSUMED - 1863 BURNT - 1206

08/09/2011 CONSUMED - 1896 BURNT - 1159

NET CALORIES - 737

09/09/2011 CONSUMED - 1517 BURNT - 956

NET CALORIES - 561

(I was starving last night - realise I had too few calories here)

Any advice on what I'm doing or how to tweak things to get better results? Feeling really down in the dumps today :(

Thank you

just keep going... you're doing great you can't lose everyday but even when the scale doesn't say so you are progressing as long as you are still trying

Thank you, I guess it's right that as long as I'm working hard it has to be a step in the right direction :) I'm over this morning's disappointment on the scales now and looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in...who cares if I'm still the same tomorrow, as long as I don't put anything on. :)

Scale weight goes up and down. Especially if you're going to weigh every day. Look at my weight graph here http://picpaste.com/weight-graph-STU2nAl0.jpg

You can see that the scale weight is really irregular. I have three-pound spikes in there! But the trend is for pretty steady weight loss, at about the max-recommended 1% of my body weight per week. The weight didn't come on at a pound a day. It's not going to come off that way either.

Also, women tend to have hormonal weight fluctuations. You see that flat line around Nov 10-12? That's ovulation. PMS usually means a spike and a flat spot. It can be disheartening to step on the scale and go "OMG, I haven't weighed that much in two weeks!" Usually I take my measurements once a week. On days like that, I'll take them again, so I can see I haven't suddenly gotten rounder in every dimension. I'm also learning that scale weight is just a data point, it doesn't tell the whole story. I look at the trend weight. I look at measurements. I look at how much exercise I've logged, and my notes about how hard or easy it was.

Good progress there. Your weight will be different from day to day depending on different variables. Dont worry and keep doing what you are doing.

Tip: Try do zumba before breakfast. I take a walk every morning before breakfast it works really well for me.

To your Success!
