I'm 24 and over the last 8 months or so i slowly started to put on weight, going from 63kg and a size 12(uk) to 74kg and a size 16 just after christmas. I tryed exercising and a few diets but couldn't stabalise my weight let alone reduce it.

In mid December i went to the Doc's and after more tests was (finaly) diagnosed with PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome). I'm still waiting to see the specialists, but in the meantime did my own research on the web. PCOS is linked with insulin resistance which is the reason for the problems with loosing weight, and the recomended diet appears to be The Low GI Diet.

I lost a little weight just after christmas getting me down to 73.6kg, but Last week i started the Low GI diet from Jennie Brand-Millers book "The Low GI Diet". I lost 1.5kg in my first week!! But i can already hear the chocolate bars at the 7/11 accross the road calling my name so i thought i'd come to find some diet buddy's to help me beat the cravings.

so erm HI!!!

i'm glad to hear your success already and good luck with the specialist. Don't forget that you don't have to ignore your cravings all the time ... in fact, it's not 'healthy' (for the mind). You can give in once in awhile ... like once a week (no more). Once you are on a regular diet, your body gets into a routine ... any small variances (like once a week bad habits - or, sadly, even good) are, in effect, nullified.

Hello and welcome!! You'll find yourself lots of buddies here to support you on your journey. Check back with us often, we are here to help you!

I too suffer from PCOS and the only thing that I found that works is counting calories. One side effect of PCOS is that you become insulin resistant, but fourtunately I have not had to deal with that. I know exactly how you are feeling. It feels awful. It is hard to lose weight to begin with, but having PCOS makes it almost impossible. I am here for you if you need to talk. Tons of luck!

Thanks for the suggestions and support guys.

LuvdByAngels3 my insulin is testing in the normal range too, but i was told that the GI diet might still help. I'll let u know how i get on!!
