I remember as a kid i was skinny but started getting chubby after i got stupid braces because i wouldn't chew my food enough. So then finally this year mid-summer i decided to start with a diet and working out. That plan is now down the toilet. But now i'm very motivated to lose a lot for so many reasons. NOw i'm 18, 6 ft, and 260 lbs. i want to be in a couple months at least 200. I think its posible, but i cant do it alone. i need your motivation. So help me out you guys. Any comments help. Thnx

Can you? Yes.

Should you? hmm...not so much. You should be aiming for 1% of your body weight a week. With that goal, you won't hit 80 in 6 but it's safer and more likely you will keep from regaining the weight.

Might I suggest reading many of the great stickies in the forum for weight loss information. We are here for you man.

I've lost over 60 lbs since the end of April...down from an original weight of 220 lbs.
Pretty crazy, I guess.
But I look and feel great!

I don't recommend such a rapid change to anyone, of course, but it can be done.

You have probably heard this before and don't want to hear it again but because I want you to succeed I will tell you anyway. When you lose weight that fast it is usually because you did it in a drastic way. Drastic ways are not sustainable ways so most people who lose a large amount fast gain it back. Eat 1800 calories a day of good healthy food and work out 60-90 minutes 5 days a week. This will help you lose weight quickly at first and as you near your goal it will slow down but still keep going. Patience and sticking to it is what works everytime.

I don't know, it seems like the first 20 pounds isn't so bad to lose in the first month. The first 10 pounds is water weight, anyway. With that in mind, I don't think it's too bad to lose 9-10 lbs a month after that. So, I'd say probably 70 lbs would be a better goal for 6 months. Just make sure you slow down after the first month. Eat lots of protein. Don't just do cardio. DO NOT JUST DO CARDIO. Lift.

I wouldn't if I were you. In looking at your pictures a lot of your weight is concentrated in the stomach. If you drop weight too fast your risk of having loose skin on the stomach increases.

I was losing weight somewhat fast (about 50 pounds since May of this year, with only 4 pounds lost in September so over 10 pounds per month before that).

Now I am actually thinking of slowing down or even stopping my weight loss for a while to minimize loose skin. My stomach and thighs are looking a little loose. And I'm female and at my fattest my weight was evenly distributed on my body. So I didn't have any one body part that was particularly big compared to the others.

geoman this may be advice that is contrary to what many here will say but I say forget the whole 'goal' idea, forget the "I want to lose xx lbs in xx days" or "I want to weigh _ _ _"

Here's why, coming from someone who's done this whole 'goal' thing and failed it is very heartbreaking and demoralizing to go through the same process over and over again only to achieve the same sort of failure...and I consider myself to having strong willpower.

The only "goal" you should have is to eat healthy and exercise every day, that's it...nothing more, nothing less. You may not lose 80 pounds in 6 months, but you will LOSE weight and LOOK better and FEEL healthier.

IF you want to set a long term plan like the one you already made then by all means do so, but after 1 week of hard exercise and dieting and only having lost a few pounds, you're going to tell yourself: "oh my God I've only lost 3 pounds and have worked my ass off, I have such a loooong way to go"

I lose exactly 72 pounds since april 1st. So, yes you can do it. Forget about things like not chewing food enough, it has nothing to do with being overweight. Being overweightr = eating too much calories for what you burn.
You CAN do it. Seriously. Lower your caloric intake to 1800-2200 calories per day, and walk 1h each day or do 30 minutes of medium intensity exercise. Do that, and check the weight drop. Trust me.
Drink lots of water, NEVER STARVE. When you're hungry, eat. Eat good stuff, vegetables, etc...

Thanks to everyone for the replies and yeah the whole 80lbs thing was just a small joke. Not even I'm that optimistic. On the bright side since i wrote this ive lost 10 lbs! Yay. Gotta keep it up

Don't aim to lose that in a certain period of time, because if you do, you'll stress. You'll work too hard; it will overtake daily living.
You are a lucky person if you're able to visualize an overall goal for yourself; not everybody can do that. I know I myself have a hard time with it.

So continue to lose, but at a healthy rate!
