OK, here I am

Hello, I’m a competitive road, mountain and cyclocross bicycle racer, but I've always been into fitness even before I started bike racing. My wife and I have both recently had major advancements in our careers, which are great, but also has demanded more work hours from me and sent my wife off traveling for the majority of the time, leaving me with a house, yard and 4 dogs to take care of on my own. In the past, I have always done some strength training and running in addition to my on-bike training. This year, because of my limited free time, bike racing and the associated training was the only exercise I had time for. I can tell just by looking in the mirror and the way I feel when I have to lift something heavy, my overall fitness is not was it once was. In addition, I had my bone density tested and it was low. Not to the point of osteoporosis, but it’s not far off if I don’t change my habits.

My race season is pretty much over this year anyway, so for now my goal is to rebuild the muscle and bone mass that I lost this spring and summer and to maintain some of my cycling fitness so I’m not starting from scratch when I begin training for next race season. I will be looking for advice on how to train more efficiently and balance bike race training with general fitness. I also think that I have a fairly good base of fitness knowledge to share with the forum. I look forward to talking with everyone.
