oh wow, or "How I realized just how much I eat"

Sitting here taking a break from doing concrete work and helping my parents with landscaping I decided to try out fitday, which by the way is a cool site.

Put in what a "normal" day would consist of food wise while here at home with my mom cooking meals. Wound up with over 3500 calories!! No wonder both my mom and dad always complain about never being able to lose any weight.

Today is looking like its going to be even more since my mom still holds tight to the ranch tradition of a big sunday night meal.

I just don't know how I can explain to her that this isn't the way we are supposed to eat, not that I'm that much better when not visiting them but I'm trying.

Offer to bring a side dish that you can eat. She'll say no no no don't bother about a thing, but bring one anyway. Make it delicious enough that she asks for the recipe. Fill up on that and just have a bit of your mother's cooking.

If your mother's feelings would be hurt if you ate none of her cooking, try cutting back the portions slightly. You're a big guy, and if you're doing concrete and landscaping work, 3,500 calories a day may well be maintenance-level for you. So just taking a smaller spoonful of each thing you put on your plate would be enough to create a deficit.

I believe in another thread you mentioned you are 6'5". I'm not saying this fits you but I can say my husband is 6'5" and needs about 3,000 calories when not being active and is not a bit overweight. For an active guy of your size, you really do need to eat more than most so don't cut your calories too drastically. Start small and see where you need to go from there. And as for your parents, well, they are adults and will do as they please.
