Oh NO, I HURT MYSELF

Oh NO, I HURT MYSELF

Hi,

about 2 1/2 week ago, i was lifting weight, something i normally never do. SO on saturday i picked up a 30lbs weight, (keep in mind i am only 140 lbs heavy) so i was lifting it, up, down, any possible position. It felt good. I did it again on Sunday. Everything was ok, and i felt good.

I woke up on monday morning with a neck pain on the left side, i could move my head to that side but i feel pain like a needle pin there i didn't do much i just ignore it, then 4days later still feeling it and headache on the botton back of my head, like i am having a migraine. So i started using ice and heat pad and bengay. I am feeling ok, i can move, go to work. But i am concerned with the headache (sort of a migraine) and the pain on the neck and something weirdness in the left upper arm. What could it be a strain/sprain, what do i do.

I already went to the ER, they only gave me Motrin, but really it doesn't help much. When i move my head to that side i feel the pain. What do i do, i am scare of the headache thing, it is not excrutiating pain but i can feel it. i should have known better to lift weight.

what do i do now? would it go away after a while? Could it be something else? i get paranoid on the little thing.

Were you exhaling when you were doing your lifts? Sometimes blood vessels can burst in some cases, if not.

I highly suggest you lay off the working out for a little while, give it time to heal so you don't hurt yourself again or make it even worse.

I don't lift weight, i don't know what took me, the 30lbs was extremely heavy for me and i used it for 2 days, without exercing first, i just went right in there and starting lifting (talk about the male ego). When i woke up on monday with the neck pain, i automatically knew it was the lifting.

The reason i am scare and went to the ER was because it has been over 2 1'2 weeks now and it is sill there with the headache. I am so parranoid by it because i should have known better.

That's it, no more weight lifting.

weightlifting isn't inherently bad. Lifting weights too heavy for you with no proper programme, poor technique and no real idea of what you are doing is very, very bad indeed (as you have found out to your cost).

I sincerely hope that you've not done any lasting damage. Assuming you have not and assuming you are still keen to excercise, I would recommend you seek professional guidance before lifting again...

Sounds to me like you pinched a nerve, I get neck spasms and pinched nerves all the time. Usually it causes a headache and sometimes tingling or numb arms and fingers.

you are scaring me. Why? would i die of it:(

I wouldn't worry about death ha but i would worry about muscle or nerve damage. The ER (while i am glad for them being there) aren't known for their being thorough. I would see a specialist, regular doctor or even a chiropratic, discuss your pain and how the injury happened and go from their. Prolonged pain like that is a sign of damage, but it doesn't mean it has to be forever however things left untreated can become a life long problem so go to the doc.

i have an appointment with my regular doctor on thursday. i will let u know how it goes. It's kind of weird though, i am feeling a lot ok today, not much headaches and eye fatigue, Only feels tiny bit of a needle when i move my neck to the painful side, but i can till move it all away up down left right with no problem. Over than that i am feeling kind of ok. Maybe it's the 2 days off i took on the weekend.

if its been 3 weeks and its not much better i would see a doc. im not saying you will die, but it could be something that needs to be looked at, better safe than sorry.

Necks are tricky business, I have been having the spasms for years now intermittently. Saw a doctor, phsiotherapist, chiropractor, nobody so far is much help for me. It's definitely not fun to deal with, hopefully you'll have better luck.
