Odd side-effect or coincedence?

So, I'm a 38 year-old woman who's managed to lose 25 pounds in the past 14 weeks through calorie counting and exercise. I'm extremely happy with the way things are going and loving the way I feel. I've still got about 45 pounds to go, but I'm pleased with my progress so far.

Here's the thing. I'm COLD. It's summer, the rest of my family is lounging around in shorts and t-shirts and I'm wrapped in sweats and jumpers to keep warm most of the time.

I'm just wondering if perhaps shedding some of my insulating blubber is the reason, if it perhaps it could be something else that's slipped my mind? My doctor just kind of chuckled and said I'm not used to Scotland weather (I moved here four years ago), but it hasn't bothered me before.

Any ideas?

Hello Dixie. First off, congrats on your success so far.

I was just reading an article somewhere (of course I can't find it now :() that talked about how naturally thin people tend to produce more body heat, as a way for their bodies to use up unneeded energy. Whereas, heavy people tend to not use so much of that energy for heat, but instead, try to conserve that energy.... but then, often heavier people don't need to make as much heat, as their larger size holds in heat better, anyway.

All of that said, I think if it were a serious enough issue, I'd to talk to a specialist, or Dr, about this. Only you know if this is serious enough for that....

Peace,
Fish

Well, the heat generated will be approximately proportional to mass, which is in proportion to the cube of your dimensions, but the heat loss is related to surface area, and that is approximately proportional to the square of the dimensions. That's why bigger bodies tend to retain heat more.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'm going to give it a while longer to see if it's just my body adjusting to this new way of life. If it continues or gets worse and I start seeing penguins following me around, I'll make my doctor do more than chuckle at me!
