Sport Nutritional Value of Pumpkin Seed Shells

Sport Fitness
So, I'm eating a bag of pumpkin seeds in the shells right now, and I was reading the nutrition facts. It says under serving size: "1/4 cup edible". Are they implying that the shells are not edible and therefore have no nutritional value? If so, then is there any nutritional value to just the shells? Or are they completely indigestible?

I'm thinking the actual shells have no calories. When I look up the nutritional value of the seeds with the shells on it is pretty low calorie, making me think the only thing with calories in it is the actual seed inside.

Do you eat the shell? I do! I wonder if my body doesn't like that :-/

Calories or not, I don't think they would count because the shell passes through the gut undigested.

Great roughage, though. Probably clears out the colon pretty good.

Do you actually mean to say that a pumpkin seed shell can survive the stomach acid and the entire digestive track and come out whole?

MEaning--- If I were to fast for say 4 days, and run water only thru my system and then eat a full pound of just pumpkin seeds in the shell- swallowing them whole, no chewing at all, they would come back out in tact?

Well, I would think they would indeed pass through undigested. I'm neither an expert on pumpkin seeds nor the digestive process, but I have seen pumpkin seeds, eaten a few, and I have digested things my whole life, and I think they would pass through (the shells) mostly intact.
However, one could easily test this theory through actual analysis. It just isn't going to be me. ;)

a while ago my dumb brother ate a ton of sunflower seed shells and no they didnt get digested so it plugged him up in the rear end
he ended up going to the hospital to get "unplugged"
