Novice looking for help/info.

Hello all, my name’s Backus and I am in search of some help regarding losing weight.

I am having a few issues with achieving my goal, probably the biggest is not knowing how to properly work out, the other is a knee injury.

Any help or information is greatly appreciated, one of the big things I am trying to lean are some good exercises for people with bad knees, as far as knee injuries go mine was pretty bad, I tore all the ligaments in my right knee and split my tibia right down the middle about half way down also shattering the tibial plateau into several pieces that had to be pinned back together, combined with a fractured fibula and broken ankle I sustained in another injury I have 19 pins and a 6 inch plate in my right leg. About a year after my injury my doctor told me that I had reached maximum medical improvement, he gave me a 20% impairment rating and gave me the fallowing restrictions, no lifting over 20 lbs, no prolonged standing or sitting.

Lucky for me these restrictions were WAY off and After being laid off I decided to make a career change and joined the fire academy, as anyone who has been there will tell you, your bunker gear and air pack weighs a lot more than 20 pounds. I made my way trough all of fire standards but was not allowed to take my state test because my ladder drill times were not fast enough for academy standards.

Being over weight is the only thing that is stopping me from achieving my goals and before I go back to the academy I need to lose weight and build endurance, a lack of strength was never an issue so I don’t feel that I need to build a whole lot of muscle, any drills that were grunt labor were easy for me, it was the things the required speed or to keep working for long periods of time that gave me trouble.

So that’s about it I know that on my own I can get where I need to be, but I also know that if I knew what I was doing and had more information I could do it faster and more efficiently and that’s basically what brought me here. Any help and or information would be greatly appreciated!
