Not Sure If I Want To Try Another Diet

I've been with a Normal Eating group for a while now and they don't advocate diets at all. I'm afraid of any form of deprivation in fear of binges. But every time I look at my fat on my stomach that is folding over my jeans, it makes me want to go on a diet.

The hard part is, I'm not overweight at all or very little. I'm 5'6", 145-150 lbs and wear a size 10. That is pretty average, but I don't like my gut.

I'm a full time Mom with two young kids and tend to reach for quick starchy snacks and meals. I pack my lunch every day with healthy things, but I usually let them go to waste and head for the vending machine for granola bars or worse. I'm a carb-o-holic.

Any words from the wise here?

Thanks,
Nora

if you read cdnboys sticky over in the other section, you will see he is a big advocate of NOT "dieting" (cutting calories). that is why so many people fail on their diets because when they resume eating their normal amount of calories they gain the weight back. im going to go find it and post the link for you so you can find it easier, i forget what section its in anyway. welcome to the forum!

ok im back with the link:

and as far as your carb addiction, the more you eat the more your body will crave! you have GOT to cut out some of your later day bad carbs and start replacing them with good ones like fruits and whole grains. until your body can get used to doing without some of them have you thought of trying a carb blocker? i have not used one but im sure somebody around here could advise you on it. and, your stomach blubber isnt going anywhere until you add some cardio like walking to your routine for at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week. be sure to check with your doctor of course before beginning any exercise routine your not used to though. also the fact that your only a size 10 and 145 pounds, (while very commendable!) doesnt mean squat to your health if your body fat percentage is high. and from the sound of your shape, it is!

hey there.... I too felt like I was relatively "normal" sized... but i wanted to be healthy and get rid of the tummy fat... adding some exercise to my life helped immensley! I also think that staying away from vending machines would help for you too... pack some low-fat or low-cal granola bars, or a piece of fruit and turn to it instead of whatever you find in vendo-land... if you are taking the time to pack a healthy lunch, you should eat it! =) I know that is probably more complex than the answer... but give yourself some credit, and don't let your hard work go to waste! little things like that will make a huge difference.

But the only way you will get rid of the tummy, is to exercise... get your heart rate pumping girl!
