Not going to quit this time...

So, here I am and still with the same weight :(

I'm 26, 5'6, and weigh 145-150, varies. I took up running again. I love to run, but I tend to slack a whole lot!! I run 2.5 miles every other day. I should have gone today, but just had a very busy day. I'm not about counting calories. It's just not my thing, but I am trying to eat healthier. I have oatmeal for breakfast, lots of wather, tuna sandwich or chicken for lunch, and sometimes, chicken for dinner, or steak, whatever I make. I know it's very normal for it to take time to lose weight. But does it seem that I'm on the right track? Are there others on here who don't count calories and seem to lose weight just fine? I'm at a loss. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Counting calories is good for one week because it helps you spot places in your diet which are bad. Some of us might have huge sources of calories we never realized. You don't have to do it a lot, but for a few days it will be good for you so you can get an idea of how much you eat. There are things like cream for coffee, dressing for salad and dairy snacks which just explode in calories we never even notice.

If you don't feel like running some days you can try shadowboxing for some cardio. Just watch some videos and practice it in your spare time. It's also fun and if you get good then 15 minutes on your off days will give you a good workout.

Prodigy is right. Just calorie counting for a few days can't help you find a few trouble areas. I use to consume enough soda per day to cover almost 1600 calories. Cutting that out alone has been a big help. Looking at your height and weight, it looks like you are right around the normal weight for your height. I am sure that will make loss a little slower. Also you could be adding muscle. Just try to keep up the good work and try to stay motivated.

Some people lose weight without counting calories, but I don't know why you'd want to. Actually, I probably know why, but just don't think it's a very good reason.

Some lucky people can just stop eating when they are no longer hungry. That's not us. If it were, we probably wouldn't be here.

Maybe you could get by just by eliminating certain foods like sweets, chips and soft drinks. It might work, but you can also be overweight by eating too much of the good kinds of food.

I know a few people who diet just by eating pretty much the same thing every day. They may have a different kind of cereal for breakfast, or a different kind of meat on their sandwich, but it's basically the same. I'd find that too boring.

Some people go on a low carb diet, which works because they eat less calories throughout the day just because they have cut out a major source of calories from their diet. You could try that. I like carbs too much to go that route.

You could just try to keep track mentally of what you have eaten during the day, but that's just another form of calorie counting, but a very inaccurate one. You will either find yourself eating too much and gaining weight, or you will have to under-eat and get hungrier than you need to. If your weight goes up a pound, you won't know if you've eaten too much or if it is a normal daily variation.

Run to get fit - diet to lose weight

At 5'6" and 145-150lbs you are approaching an optimal weight. Your BMI is about 24 which is pretty good.

Figure out how many calories you are eating to stay even and find a way to burn more calories and eat less to create a deficit of 3500-5500 calories a week. You will lose 1-1.5lbs per week.

How long does it take you to run 2.5 miles? Do you do it with out stopping?

Thanks all for the input. Caddyguy- it takes me about 15-20 minutes to run the 2.5 miles. I don't stop at all. I don't know if that's good or bad. I know I can improve though.

Hello and welcome! I am also 5'6 and currently weigh 146.2 pounds and am finding it very hard to loss lately. The most I seem to be losing is 1 pound a week and that is trying very hard! I don't count calories but I count WW points which is sorta similar. I recently started tracking a couple days of eating into livestrong's daily plate and really found things interesting. I eat way to much salt and don't get enough protein and wouldn't have realized that without going to that site. It's really helpful even just to put in the foods you are used to eating and see how they measure up. What has your lowest weight been? Do you take measurements? Just curious since I'm the same height and weight and this is the smallest I have even been and can't picture myself lossing much more. My goal is to get to 135 by my wedding in August and I know I'm going to have to work really hard to get there. I currently run 3.2 miles in 30 min so 2.5 miles in 20 minutes is amazing in my mind!! Keep it up and good luck.

Spend a week counting calories and really monitoring your diet. Try and find a way to knock off 500 calories per day and then add another 15-20 minutes to your runs and run 3 days a week. Try and mix up your 30-40 minute runs with some hills as well as some run/walk and run/jog intervals. These intervals are actually called "fartleks" which sounds weird but is a Swedish term for speed training. Fartlek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

These sessions really burn the calories. Like 600-800 in a 40 minute session.
