not eating before bed!!!!!!!

Hi heidi,

I did your BMR, weight, height, and I guessed you are ~30 (sorry if your not, I went by the pic) BMR-1375.9. TDEE- then I multiplied bmr by activity level 1.375 came up with 1891.8 cal you burn in a day. This can help you out

BMR= cal burned @ rest

TDEE= activity level multipled by BMR

Hope this helps

Not sure if you are aware of this or not, but if not, thought this could save you some time. :)

Those equations are just estimates, as we all know. This said, multiplying ones body weight by 15 usually does just as well as any of those calculators.

i eat cereal

hello everyone concerning not eating before going to bed,,it happens that at times that if i dont eat a snack a bit before going to bed i wont be able to sleep so i eat a bowl of cereal,,(usually one that contains fiber or one like special k.it fills me up.i once saw a nutritionist on tv and said the same thing ,,,,oh yes she even said 1 toat with a teaspoon of low fat peanut butter was ok

Steve, is that true for men and women? (The 15 cal mark?)

Yup, just work out the math above. The above person weighs 129 I think. The fancy calculator came up with a maintenance caloric intake of 1890. Multiplying her weight by 15 gives you roughly 1900. Actually 1935, which is not a significant difference. Close enough for sure since they are all just estimates anyhow. :)

I'd say only not eat after 7pm if you can do this naturally anyway - if it's something you are struggling with then forget it completely becuse you'll eventually fail at it and then feel bad about yourself.

This isn't meant to be so much torture - it's meant to be a way of life.

I often have porridge before bed, or fruit and a yoghurt and if you only get weighed once a week then you arent going to see false gains because you ate late at night.

All the way through I've pretty much eaten when I was hungry - you don't have to feel hungry to lose weight.

Yep I am 30 ish. So in other words, I can maintain my weight if I eat 1890 cals a day. So if I want to loose I need to consume less the 1890 a day?

Yes, but it doesn't mean eat junk food, oh how I wish :D I would decrease between 500-750 from the1890 this should get~1-2 pounds a week weight loss. But you need to work out. I recommend you do cardio 4-5 times a week 30 min sessions and weight training at least 3 days prefer 4-5. I recommend you eat 5-6 small balanced meals with protien at each meal. Cut out fruit after 12pm and complex carbs after 4pm. This is what has helped me.
Good luck

hey guys, i totally agree...even if you do save your calories 4 night time...I still feel that your body will store more...don't know if its tru or not...I know that it's a big debate...but...i find more success when i just plain old STOP my snacking at night...it snowballs ya know!!!

I love how you contradict yourself in this statement...:D

I can understand the snowball effect...

Before I started losing weight...I could sit down with an entire can of pringles at night, and wouldn't you know it, they'd be gone by the time I went to bed.

Now though - if I make room for x amount of calories in my day - then it doesn't matter what time I eat them.

Granted, if I allotted x amount of calories factoring a can of pringles right before bed, I would probably notice water retention due to an increase in sodium.

The trouble with late night snacking, is that it isn't always planned for, and if there is a hand to mouth action, then the added problem is knowing when to stop.

As people are starting out to lose weight, taking small steps is hugely important - having self imposed guidelines in place to help with those issues we might have a difficult time coping with is a place to start.

So...if late night snacking causes you to eat more, or you have a hard time stopping, or want to cut out mindless snacking, then putting a stop time on eating makes sense. From a psychological level.

However, it is still calories in vs. calories out for the whole day.

Well said. :)

We've all got to start somewhere.. I eat the MOST at night.. i think last night i had 1 cup of Ice cream and 2 hotdogs and 2 pops :O. I want in on this but its gonna be super hard for me

Planning what to eat

I'm a night time eater.
I don't have a regular dinner time or sit down to eat it time.
I find that if I eat a good dinner (even if it's a frozen one), I don't binge as much in the late evening.

I have to eat something before I go to bed as I cant eat for about 4-5 hours after I wake up. NO idea why but it just makes me feel like crap and on occasion it 'revisits' me :( , and also as I am doing my horse from 6-9 at night no time to eat + i feel sick if I do physical work on a full tummy.
I usually have something liquid though as if its solid and heavy I cant sleep (no winning eh?!)

I used to have like one of those herbal life shakes, but they are damn addictive!!
Need to see what else I can find as not a huge fan of solid food..........unless its PIZZA :D

Since you can't eat first thing in the am i would recommend you take L-glutamin first thing it helps with upset tummies and keeps your cortasole (sp) levels down because they get active while you sllep and get more active once you awaken and don't eat protien. Also have tried any probiotics? I recommened florastor. It helps with gut stuff.

Hope this helps

Lol, Steve. I'd have to agree with you there. Which means - I SEE YOU! Lol. I learned that in a nutritional class. As long as you are active during the day, you continue to burn through the night.
