AHHHH...this seems soooo hard to do, I ate a big healthy dinner just 2 hours ago but I want something to eat! I am not allowing myself to eat after 7pm.....
Sorry, had to vent for a minute...I am going to bed now! :)

I go to bed at 10:30. At 10, I eat a full meal of approximately 550 calories.

I am also doing this....

Not eating after 7 or 8 depending on what time I am going to bed. I have done well with it so far. I have been paying more attention to protein as I was told this keeps you full longer. I am not sure any advice. My hubby has big issues with this as well, and we basically are eating the same things.

Energy balance on longer continuums is what dictates fat loss. If you are in a deficit for the total 24 hour period, how do you expect your body to store tissue? You are operating in a deficit, that means there will be no storage.

Eat an apple or orange. I try to only eat fruits or vegetables after 9pm. In fact I had some peaches an hour ago and i'm not hungry anymore.

I haven't found when I eat to be a contributing factor to weigh ins.

Now...WHAT I eat has a huge role ;)

I don't eat about 730pm and you'll get used to it and eventually you won't feel hungry...honest! For me, I was used to watching a show and munching on something, so I had to break the emotional ties there. After that, I was good to go. You can do it. Also, don't forget to get your water in throughout the day. It helps tremendously!! Good luck!

I guess my physiological reasoning is invisible in this thread. Cool, I am invisible!

Haha, you can't see me!

hey guys, i am definitely struggling to not eat at night, this is my 2nd week of trying to stick to it.

but no one has mentioned the fact that at night your metabolism slows down...therefore what (no matter what) you eat will more likely turn to fat than be burned off....

I will say this one more time. If you are in a deficit, you are not going to add tissue to your frame.

I've always figured that calories in vs. calories burned for the entire day is what matters.

Regardless of when I eat in the day.

Granted, I try to space out food throughout the day with a lot of small meals, but I GENERALLY (which means, on average) do not even start making dinner until 8:15-8:30 which means I eat dinner around 9:00 most nights.

Steve, you're not invisible. I CAN see you (NOT that I'm a peeking Tom'ette or anything) ;)

Again I agree with Steve. If you are eating x amount of calories below your recommended amount to maintain weight, then you can add in a night time snack.
For example if you want to eat 2500 calories per day, you can have 5 meals at 500 calories each (estimate.) One of those could be right before bed, since you are eating in the minus.

My father in law told my wife this. If you want to lose weight, 1)walk 2)drink water 3)dont eat after 7pm. Think about this: why 7pm? Why not 10pm? Why not 937pm? All peoples lifestyles are not the same, so why such a generalization?

I enjoy cottage cheese, flax oil, peanut butter, and sometimes a scoop of whey before I go to bed.

I eat in these times:

Breakfast: 8AM
Snack: 11:40AM
Lunch: 1:30PM
Tea/Dinner: 4:00 OR 5:30PM

Maybe try that, i sometimes get hungry at night if i eat at 4:00 but i just ignore it and go to bed, its really not that hard.

ditto tony.....

this arrangement almost seems like it'd be a problem - because you're going more than 12 hours without anything... that seems like a long time...

My thoughts.....

I find that I sleep better if I do not have a bellyfull.. I try to not eat late at night because it tends to be for the wrong reasons, more boredom then hunger. I set a time of 3 hours before bed, but if I am starving, then I will have something. Not that I can never eat, just that I find for me this works well.

No its no problem. Doesnt stop the weightloss from working. And i dont get hungry enough to cave in at night either.

But everyone is different, some people really need to eat at night, its mostly a matter of eating plans and will power.

Not its just a matter of knowing how many calories you want per day and dividing them up throughout. If that means eating before, then thats what you do.

I would rather use my willpower to stick with a good diet, then to starve myself at night. You have to eat to lose weight, plain and simple.

Of course it doesnt stop your weight loss, but it can encourage muscle loss.
