Not eating after 7 PM...

Thats true because you don't burn as much later at night. Thats why they say breakfast should be your biggest meal. I agree with Monica though I feel the same way if I don't eat as much before I sleep I feel alot better when I wake up!

I think it's fiction.. I probably eat 700-1000 calories right before bed because usually when I wake up, I hit the treadmill for an hour and otherwise I wouldn't have the energy to do that.. and I've lost 2-3 lbs a week for the past month and I have a BF% of about 7 now

My 2p

I first read about this years ago in the book Fit For Life, by H and M Diamond.

They claim that a 24 hour day is divided into 3 eight hour periods. I can't remember exactly, but I think that midnight until 8am is when the body is eliminating toxins, so should not have to divert any extra energy to digestion.

Personally, I think that's a bit far fetched, but who knows? There may be a grain of truth in it.

I certainly feel better if I avoid a heavy meal late in the evening. Munching a piece of cheese is guaranteed to make me wake up feeling bloated and tired.

I believe that the best type of food for a late night snack is fruit. It is easy to digest and low in calories.

Fruit also makes an excellent snack at any time of day, including breakfast, although it should always be eaten BEFORE a meal to allow the meal to be digested properly.

The second post mentioned something about Oprah, I dont think anyone should be taking diet advice from Oprah. Shes lost and gained more pounds than this forum in total :) In a recent interview she said she was on the "nuts and water" diet. Oh boy!

Late eating is a myth. When my son was first born and would wake up in the night, I would feed him, then feed myself. Combined with strength training I dropped 12 pounds and 6% bf.

The body dosent know what time it is so this not eating after 7pm is just a myth. It annoys me alot tho becourse i still hear about it so often. Just a few days ago from my mother. She even was at the gym and got home around 7pm and refused to eat afterwards becourse it was to "late" in her words. This is just dumb, eating after a work out is the most important meal.

If you wana read more about this subject i can recommend this http://scienceaboutweightloss.com/?p=28

When I eat later in the evening, I go to bed feeling bloated and wake up feeling almost ill and with zero energy. Ice cream is the worst, especially chocolate. But any food eaten later in the night can cause digestive upset, GERD, poor digestion and weight gain, especially for older people. Young people (under 40) can get away with murder when it comes to food as a rule. But the body changes, and that is sometimes why message boards end up in a war over eating patterns and health. It's not the same for everyone. It just isn't. Today I got back on the early eating program as my doctor also suggested it. He said one of his patients just lost 30 lbs not eating at night.
