Not eating after 7 PM...

yeah its somewhat of a myth. So long as you eat less calories than you use, doesnt really matter when you eat.

Im a classic example. Im a night time eater. I cant sleep on an empty stomach personally :D

But it does make sense that you will use less calories in your sleep -so it is going to be more damaging to pack with calories right before bed than in the daytime... :)

It still doesn't matter what time you eat. The only thing that does matter is that you eat a good breakfast when you wake up because your body hasn't ate anything in like the last 8 hours so your metabolism has slowed down a lot.

Ugh... speaking of sleep, I can't sleep. It's almost 4 in the morning. lol.

I think I may start trying this also, however, I am also a nightowl, so im sure it will be difficult....I love this site it helps people to stay motivated and offers great advice, thanks~

Though it doesnt matter when you eat, ive been TRYING to eat more in morning at less late at night. Its probably a bad habit i need to get rid of lol.

I still eat about 500-700 calories for breakfast lunch and the rest are 5pm onwards :/

This is what always made sense to me.

If I don't keep tight control on my PM calories I binge every time.

I've heards (though I don't know how true it is) that you should eat something small like a cracker or a piece of cheese just before you go to bed to boost your metabolism while you're sleeping so that it doesn't totally shut off for the night. It makes sense, but like I said, I'm not sure how true it is.

At least according to the book "Body by God", it makes a difference WHAT you eat at different times of the day. For example, you might want to be heavy on the complex carbs first thing in the morning so you can use them throughout the day, but you want the opposite at night. If you can burn them, that's fine, but if you load up on carbs late at night, you cannot use them entirely while you sleep, so they get converted to fat. The evening meal should be more protein oriented than carbs because your body does most of its muscle repairs while you sleep, especially the last 2 hours or so.

failed? theres no such thing as failure.
If its any consolation, i ate a cup of chippies whilst watchin and movie right before bed :)

I ate 3 handfuls of homemade poppycock (it's deadly to diets:eek: ) right before bed last night. I am NOT a failure!

I find that when I stop eating earlier on in the evening, I wake up the next morning feeling extra good.

Also, when I eat too close to bedtime, I wake up feeling more hungry than if I DON'T eat near bedtime. Strange, but true.

Well if you eat then go to sleep your metabolism slows down and instead of digesting all that food it's turned to fat which probably would make you feel wretched in the morning if your bulkier than when you went to sleep

It definitely works for me . I eat all my meals from 6 am to 6 pm. I eat every 3 hours and any eating after 7 hurts my weight goals . It probably is more for disciplines sake to " close the kitchen " for the night at 7.

I just wanted to add that not eating 3 hours before bed is a myth. It really matters what you eat. You want fat, protein, and fiber. Cottage cheese, eggs or egg whites, and pumpkin seeds would be a great last meal before bed. The egg whites are a perfect protein as is the cottage cheese and since it's casein in nature, it's slow releasing...combine that with the fiber from the pumpkin seeds and you have slow releasing amino acids throughout the night.

I think we already got that sorted in earlier posts.
The only thing it changes is your weight in the morning (temporarily) until it evens out, same as anytime you eat :)

Just have to add that My weight loss occurs more consistently when i stop eating after 7pm. I'm pretty excited . I've lost 13 pounds so far and My goal weight is for May 1st. I feel better when I don't munch at night.

I agree that this is a myth in theory But it still works. This mindless evening eating (munchies) is a bad habit that needs to be broken. I have stopped eating after 6pm and this has greatly helped weight loss. I have lost over 40 pounds this way. I find it helped to brush my teeth and floss when I was done eating for the day. That way even something good for you like celery wasn't tempting me to eat it 'cause I didn't feel like flossing again. Bad habits are hard to break. Especially torturous is watching hubby on the weekend eating peanuts and drinking beer while I stick to sparkling water with lemon.:(
