Hello everyone
My name is Jes and I'm a 19 year old junior in college. I go to a college in San Diego, CA and I am absolutely in love with the town
I also work part-time at an Apple retail store and am a HUGE Apple fan.
I started my fitness journey over the past summer. I went back home for the summer around July. After I found myself short winded from just climbing the stairs, I KNEW I had to do something. It is NOT healthy for a 19 year old to get short winded from simply climbing a few stairs.
I started out slow. Only working out 3-4 days a week. Mainly cutting out a lot of junk food from my diet. Just eating healthier. I was a HUGE soda addict. Drank 1-2 cans of it daily. I started slowly. If I wanted soda really badly, I would allow it. So I reduced my intake to 1-2 times a week. I've gotten a lot better. I haven't had any kind of soda in about 2-3 weeks. I don't really crave it either. Instead I stick to water, ORANGE JUICE <3, milk, etc.
I've gotten a lot more serious about working out. I probably work out 6 days out of the week. I run 4-5 miles. I started out with only running. I am slowly adding some weights into my routine. I usually get up early to go running (5AM-6AM). It gives me amazing energy throughout the day.
I also try to do a lot of small stuff. If I go somewhere, I park as far away so I make myself walk. My campus at school is huge (shuttle system big). Before I would take the shuttle, but now I make myself walk. It's also located in the hills so I'm constantly up and down all day.
The hardest part for me has been cleaning up my diet. I live with 2 other girls. OMG sooooo easy to eat junk food when I'm with them. It's so much easier for me to eat healthier when I go back home and have my mom to buy and make food. I am not big on cooking at all. It's so much easier to just pop something frozen in the microwave and eat that. So I'm really, really trying. I've been scouring the net for easy, healthy recipes.
I recently got braces. My term for that is 16 months. So I'm giving myself 16 months to lose weight. I want to lose around 60lbs. I'm 5'6 and I weighed 190lbs a month ago. I've lost weight but I haven't checked how much yet. I don't want to make this all about numbers so I'm only allowing myself to check the weight once a month. I'm doing this because I want/NEED to be healthy. It's not just a diet, it's a lifestyle change for me. </corniness> lol That sounded SUPER corny but it's true!
I hope to meet a lot of cool people on here! I post at another forum with a tiny health forum but I'm looking for more support. People that are serious about being healthy. Some days you just need some extra motivation. My 2 roomies neverrrrrrr work out so that doesn't help me either. It'd be so nice to have an actual work-out buddy but this forum will do for now.
Alright, wow that was really long. Time for my run. Can't wait to meet everyone!!!
