noob alert

As there's not much fat on me i thought i'd go down the 'toning up' route rather than bulking up.. im finding that i am losing the fat off my abs and in turn losing weight. But surely if my workouts/diet was working, i'd be gaining weight (or at least maintaing my weight) while the fat decreases?

comments/suggestions?

What are your goals? Are you wanting to become bigger/more muscular? Its all about diet man, if your losing weight your not eating enough, simple.

yeh that was my plan though mate.. i've got no fat on my arms or legs, just a little hiding my abs.. even my chest is pretty firm.. so reading up on things apparently the only way to lose fat is to eat less cal's etc.. which is what i was doing.. thinking it would be a quick fix to see my abs (cos theres barely any fat on me).. seems to be eating away at any muscle i have as well though because im losing weight, as well as fat.. if u see what i mean?

"'toning up' route rather than bulking up"

If you're not looking to lose fat, then I don't see the difference between toning and bulking (not that I really understand 'toning' in any context). You want to build muscle...maybe not hulk muscle, but more muscle than you have now, correct?

well i do wna lose fat.. i wanna lose the fat from my stomach.. not that thats allot, but i was under the impression less calories would achieve that (along with exercise, which i've been consistant at for a few months now).. but essentially what you're saying is true, yeh.. i'v always seen toning as gettin my body lookin tight like JT and bulkin iv always seen as having the aim to look like 'hulk' as u put it.. appologises if that's incorrect..

Well, it's a combination of both. You may well have little fat, but also little muscle. So no matter how much fat you lose, you're abs aren't going to show until you're emaciated. Best guess here would be that you need to spend some time building up some muscle and THEN come back to lose any fat you gain during that process. It's hard to say without pics, but that's what it sounds like.

This will involve lifting weights and eating a calorie surplus, but you aren't going to get huge by any means without doing it well for a very, very long time. Just my 2 cents.

Ill bet you need to go on a really clean bulk and trainng cycle. You should probably post some pics and get some opinions. Sometimes its good to have other peoples opinions on what route you should take.

thanks for your sugestions and opinions.. i can post pics, is there a particular place on this forum to do that? it seems everyones saying to keep the exercise up (more weights than cardio?) and to eat a hell of a lot more than i am at the moment? would anyone recommend weight gainer supplements to do this job? -im assuming there filled with good stuff so the extra weight goes to muscle and not fat?!

Yep, there is a pitcure section in both the women's and mens section.

I have had no experience with weight gainers but from what I have read the general consensus is that they are full of garbage. In all circumstances it is best to eat clean whole foods. However, it can be difficult to get enough protein all the time so a good supplement is whey protein. Try to get about 0.8-1gram of protein per pound of bodyweight.
