If someone ate super clean like a cutting program-type diet and did no exercise, would they still lose weight and fat and retain most of their current muscle?...and on that subject.... How quickly does muscle atrophy if its not worked regularly?

You can definitely lose weight with a strict diet but there's no way you can retain muscle mass (unless you didn't train to begin with). If you're already relatively healthy, this approach is not effective. If you were quite a bit overweight to begin with, a diet change alone can make great differences. I'm not sure about time required to atrophy however. On a personal experience, around 3 weeks of no weight training is sufficient to noticably reduce my strength.

I agree with the above. A person can certainly lose fat this way. If a person has been strength training and then stops muscle loss can happen as soon as 2 weeks. Even if a person hasn't been strength training we all lose muscle naturally as we age, but at a very slow rate.

if worried about not having time to exercise 1 decent session a week should preserve most of your muscle...if worried about no equipment than bodyweight type exercises will also preserve muscle if done hard enough

no not worried about time. I'm taking some time off and want to know what thats going to do to me if I still keep the same diet

From the sounds of it, you can have up to a 2 week vacation guilt-free, since the muscles won't change any in that time.

wow. well thanks Stingo. I guess I needed to hear it that way :) wow. all that time off. unreal.

Yeah I took almost 2 weeks off strength training and I had very little muscle loss not to mention i think it was a much needed break for my body at the time. When i went back into training I started a new routine and made some real quick strength gains afterwards. Breaks can be very good for you.

Yes sparrow. I agree with these peeps here ^^. The effort you have been putting in, taking a 2 week hiatus from working out but maintaining a clean diet won't have much negative effect on you. Your body may even need the break. A well timed "rest" does wonders for you.

Thanks guys, I feel very encouraged and de-stressed about the whole thing. I appreciate your feedback!
