Me, my husband and my two sons are all overweight. My problem is no time. I work the graveyard shift, my husband works from 8am to 8pm. I tend to make meals that are quick, easy and inexspensive. Problem is they are usually high in fat. We never seem to have time to work out. I get broken sleep throughout the day, an hour hear two hours later and maby 3 hours before going back to work. I have begun making salads every night and serving it with dinner. I have noticed the kids eat less of thier dinner affter eating thier salad but i know this is not enough. I have no energy and live off of energy drinks. Anyone have suggestions on how to get the energy to actually begin working out? Also need advise on what foods to make that wont consume half of my day or cost me an arm and legg? I try to buy healthy foods but in reality the not so good foods cost a lot less. I really need advise my oldest son is so overweight he is begining to get teased at school and it breaks my heart cause i know its my fault for the foods i feed him. I can feed my whole family off two dollers, a doller for a box of spagetti and a doller for a jar of sauce. Hot dogs, hamburger meat theese are all cheaper foods and stuff i can afford but i know its not healthy and its starting to hurt our health. Any suggestions would be greatly aprechiated, i need help. Thank you

Is it possible for your kids and husband to help with meal prep? I find that when I am working, my husband and I need to work as a team to eat healthy meals. I couldn't do it without him. We have to plan our meals out ahead of time and do our grocery shopping once a week for the week. We average about $150.00/week on food and I feed my husband, my mom, our 2 year old son and a little food for the baby. We use time on the weekends to prep some of the food so that it is easier to prepare.

You could try adding cooked broccoli, onions and mushrooms to your pasta sauce (I puree the broccoli and no one complains). You could also switch to whole wheat pasta (I started with half white and half whole wheat and gradually increased from there). I normally make double or more batches and then freeze some so that I have really quick meals for other nights in the month - that makes the money stretch further and the food is healthy.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I think this weekend i will try making a few diffrent meals and freezing them and see how that goes. A freind also suggested the whole weat pasta and i tried it and the family loved it, so that went good. I really want to stick with the brown rice i like it but the family says it has no taste. I dont want to add butter casue that defets the purpose any suggestions on making brown rice flavorfull?

If I am having brown rice as a side I cook it in broth (look for low sodium) chicken and turkey are the favorites here but I have also used vegatable and beef. We also like rice with mushrooms, onions and wild rice. It is important to have some fat in our diets, so a little butter or oil (or other fat) is not a bad thing.

When I started healthy eating I just made small changes that I knew I could live with forever. So you don't need to cut everything that is unhealthy out right away, unless you want to. I found it was easier to stick to my small changes. I had tried going cold turkey several times and I just couldn't do it! I ended up right back where I started after about 2 1/2 weeks. Now I have maintained my small changes for 9 1/2 months and I see myself keeping these small changes forever. I still have a ways to go, but I am more willing to make small changes to get there.

Good job on the freezer meals! They are a lifesaver for me when I am short on time!

Hey

Working out is like a snowball effect, we just need to get off our butt and get started! Then the momentum builds and you'll start really enjoying it.

You don't have to start out running marathons or training under waterfalls with the monks but take small steps each day and gradually increase it to BUILD MOMENTUM.

In regards to diet here are some great easy and effective tips you can follow and start straight away..
