So here starts my diary. I am trying to make myself accountable for my food choices and exercising, so what better way than to put it out there for the world to see!
Moi: I'll be 36 this year. I have a wonderful 7 y.o. daughter and fab husband, 2 dogs and a cat. Over the last 10 years I have put on probably 30 lbs. I'm 5'4" and weigh probably 165. I don't know for sure, as I have always been allergic to scales. I wear a size US 10/12. I guess at some point I'll actually have to get on a scale to monitor the weight loss, eh??
In the last three years I've had lots of orthopedic problems- knee surgery in 2007 followed by 6 weeks of PT. Sciatica and pinched nerves in neck and shoulders. The knee never really went back to normal, but got better because we were able to join a gym. I actually went and did pretty well. I didn't lose a bunch of weight because I didn't change my eating habits, but I felt strong. In the past year, the gym membership waned, we rehabbed our house, moved 700 miles from home and my mother was dxed with a terminal illness. Consequently, my muscles turned to mush and I developed plantar fasciitis, as well as now constant knee pain. The real wake-up call came last week when I went to a sports medicine specialist. Not embarrassing at all being a musician who has maybe played one sport for 6 months in my whole life. I def couldn't say that I blew out my knee on a 12 mile run! No, I just don't have much cartilage left because of the way I'm built. So, basically I'm in danger of having a total knee replacement and possibly a total hip replacement- BEFORE age 40!! The first thing my hb said when I told him was "What did they say about losing weight?" Well, they said nothing, but it doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to know that the extra 40 lbs I'm carrying around doesn't make my joints happy.
I'm in physical therapy now once per week. I bought $100 specialized running shoes and $35 inserts so that my plantar fasciitis heals. So far, that's much better. I've been on the bike as prescribed every day. I've added free weights to my 'workout' just to get some modicum of cardio. The 15-ish minutes on level 5 of the bike gives me no cardio, but is about all the knee can handle right now.
Since I'm not up and about much, I'm trying to eat far fewer calories. I'm not very good at counting exactly, but here's a guesstimate of what I've had today. I'll need to stop being allergic to calorie counting as well!
BF: 1 cup Cheerios w/ 1/4 cup 1% milk = 160
One Eggo waffle = 130
Lunch: Thin bagel = 110
1 wedge reduced fat Laughing Cow cheese = 45
Iced tea= 0
snack: handful of Smart Start cereal + 5 chips dark chocolate= 100?
Dinner: Low fat turkey sausage= 250?
Sauerkraut= 0
Snack: cup of yogurt= 125
Grand total= 920 (yay! no soda! Day #2!)
Exercise:
17 minutes on stat bike at level 5. 7 more minutes than specifically prescribed. Several sets of tri and bicep curls. Did stretches. Still have to do 2 other PT exercises today.
If I go back to the gym tonight or the fam goes walking, I'll eat more. I know that is a really low # of calories and my hb will probably force-feed me. But, I've been doing only light housework and reading/writing all day. Lawd, I really need a job!! That would help! Only one more month before school starts again- let's hope something comes through then!
All for now. Until tomorrow...

We got a lot of exercise- swimming, biking, walking, so hopefully I burned off some of it.
