hi everyone, like most of you ive had enough of being over weight!! my wife has a cross trainer in the garage and ive been on it for the last 5 days...i know this might sound daft but can anyone tell me if doing 16k on a cross trainer is the same as running 16k on the roads?? i ask because ive not done any fitness in years and ive been doing 16k a day on cross trainer and to be honest i could never see myself being able to run that far!!! it just doesnt feel the same or as hard as running hense i dont think its as good. i would be gratefull for your replys as im new to all this!!

I dont know very much about these but when i used to use tredmills my dad said there not the same because the machine helps you to make the movements were as running on land you have to do it all yourself. They still give you like the exersise and you are doing the 16k just with help! This is only what my dad told me and he runs alot so i just belived him

Chris are you refering to an eliptical trainer. I have a friend who uses one when he has an injury. He runs a lot and says the eliptical trainer is ok but has to work really hard/fast on it to get a comparable heart rate to running. So yes an eliptical can be a affctive but you need to really work hard on it in comparison to running road. The good thing with the ET is that it,s low impact and easier on the body then running on pavement or cement sidewalks.

thankis very much to you both for replying to me,your help is much appreciated, i called my friend who runs alot and he runs 16k on the roads in 1hour 12 ish and he is real fit so for me to be doing 16k on this machine in 43 mins cant be rite coz ive done nothing for years......im gonna keep going on it coz its better than nothing and at least im doing something rather than sat on the sofa eating rubbish......im told 16k a day and eat rite i will soon see the difference in weeks/months to come so thats my plan.....thanks again...
